Jonny Walker Opens Up 2015 Extreme Enduro Account With A Win In France

Posted:

Red Bull KTM‰Ûªs Jonny Walker opened his Extreme Enduro season with flair and a win in a brand new event, the Al̬s TrÌ»m in France on Saturday.

Jonny Walker also Friday‰Ûªs prologue winner, came home ahead of rival Graham Jarvis. Red Bull KTM factory teammate Andreas Lettenbichler took third place.

Al̬s Tr̻m a venue new to all riders kicked off what promises to be a great Extreme Enduro season and it was a definite confidence booster for Walker to pull off a victory over Jarvis, a man who is traditionally one of the toughest and most wily in any extreme competition.

It was also a warm up for the traditional Hell‰Ûªs Gate in Italy next month, an Extreme Enduro that takes no prisoners. The new French event also attracted 400 starters, an indication of the increasing popularity of the sport.

‰ÛÏFor a new race it‰Ûªs been great." Walker admitted. "It was hard work, and some parts of the track were really technical on the last lap, but generally it wasn‰Ûªt overly difficult.

"Being the first rider to start the first lap meant that I didn't have any tire tracks to follow. I got lost for a short time on the second lap, and dropped back to third. But I pushed really hard on the final lap and everything went well. Like I said it‰Ûªs not been overly difficult, but really enjoyable. The prologue on the first day was also great fun.‰Û

Runner up, Husqvarna's Graham Jarvis enjoyed the event but was disappointed to finish in second position.

‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs been a good event but to be honest I‰Ûªm a little disappointed I didn‰Ûªt win." Jarvis stated. "I made a mistake on the final quarry section and the victory got away from me there. Starting the main event I was a little on the back foot having qualified sixth in Friday‰Ûªs prologue.

"I‰Ûªd been getting the holeshot all day during my heat races but for the Super Final I spun my rear tyre coming out of the starting gate and was pushed to the back of the track. With only five laps to recover, and in darkness, it just wasn‰Ûªt possible so I had to play it safe.

"For Saturday‰Ûªs main event I pushed hard on the opening lap to close the gap to the leaders. It wasn‰Ûªt overly difficult terrain but with three laps to ride it was quite physical. I got into the lead on lap two and felt good. It wasn‰Ûªt really possible to breakaway from Jonny and for the final lap it was a case of whoever made a mistake lost the race.

"Unfortunately it was me. I got on the wrong line descending into the quarry and he got past. After that I just couldn‰Ûªt fight back and had to settle for second. Overall I‰Ûªm pleased. I‰Ûªm riding well, the bike feels great and with Hell‰Ûªs Gate a little over two weeks away it‰Ûªs been the perfect event to get a few race miles under my belt.‰Û
