Joan Barreda leads Dakar after stage two, Fish leading the way for Australia

The Dakar got well and truly underway on the second stage as riders tackled at 242Km course in Peru laced with endless sand dunes.

Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain's Spanish rider Joan Barreda, who claimed victory on day two and moved his way to the top of leader board after the Pisco ‰ÛÒ Pisco second stage.

The stage proved to be really tough, with plenty of opportunities for errors and loss of time. Barreda on his Husqvarna TE449RR by Speedbrain set an imposing pace from the start of the special test, coming in more than three minutes ahead of the nearest rival, Spanish rider Pedrero Garcia.

‰ÛÏA really tough stage, but I‰Ûªm really pleased with the way I raced." Barreda stated about the first real competitive stage of the 2013 race. "By the time we were 100 km into the race, I was in command and I set my own pace to the finish line.

"I wanted to get away fast and that‰Ûªs what I did. The bike is perfect and the team are doing a great job.‰Û

Matt Fish lead the way for the Australian contingent put in a fine performance, managing to finish among the leaders in third place and in doing so moved himself up to 6th place in the bike class.
