In the fast-paced world of Enduro racing, Jess Gardiner has been a force to reckon with throughout 2023.

Her relentless dedication and hard work paid off when she secured a well-deserved second-place finish behind seven-times champion Jane Daniels in the Women’s division at the final round of the 2023 World Enduro GP in Portugal.

Gardiner’s achievement was marked by consistent performances at previous rounds. While she may not have clinched a round victory, she consistently found herself on or near the podium every time she hit the track.

During the final weekend of the EnduroGP season, Gardiner displayed her prowess by clinching victory in Friday’s Super Special Test. She followed it up with a solid fourth-place finish on Saturday and a fifth-place finish on Sunday. These results were more than enough to secure her a well-deserved second place in the 2023 world championship, highlighting what has been an extraordinary season for the industrious New South Wales gun.

“I didn’t perform at my best throughout the weekend, to be honest. I felt a bit off on the bike and during the tests,” Gardiner admitted. “I’m not sure if it was nerves or just struggling to adapt to the conditions, but it was sufficient to maintain second place, and I’m thrilled about that.”

Gardiner extended her gratitude to the Johansson MPE Enduro Team for their unwavering support, as well as her partner Jeremy Carpentier, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help her achieve this remarkable result. She also expressed her appreciation for her sponsors in Australia and eagerly anticipated reconnecting with them upon her return. Now, her focus shifts to Australia and the final round of the AORC, where she aspires to add to her ever-growing list of championships.

Gardiner’s protégé, Danielle McDonald, also ventured into international competition as she joined Gardiner at the round in Portugal. McDonald had an impressive debut, consistently challenging her mentor throughout the weekend. She finished the weekend with a series of 6-4 results in the Women’s division, proving her mettle as a future star with her determined racing.

Much like Gardiner, McDonald has a packed schedule for the remainder of the year, including races in Australia, Argentina, and the USA.

“I’ve accompanied Jess on these trips to learn the ropes and observe the racing scene, but this was my first time actually competing,” McDonald said. “It was tough, challenging, but also a lot of fun. Ending with solid results on both days only fuels my motivation to work harder and return to this level of racing as quickly as possible.”

McDonald extended her appreciation and congratulations to Jess for her guidance and support throughout the year. She also expressed gratitude to her family for the sacrifices they made in supporting her racing endeavours.
