Jed Beaton Tightens ProMX Grip With Another Clean Sweep At Toowoomba Round

Jed Beaton strengthened his grip on the 2026 ProMX MX1 Championship at Toowoomba with a perfect 1-1 result, overcoming heavy conditions and fending off a late charge from Kyle Webster in moto two to extend his points lead to 40.

Jed Beaton has continued his dominant run in the 2026 ProMX Championship, tightening his grip on the MX1 title chase with another commanding clean sweep at round four in Toowoomba on May 24.

Driven by the heartbreak of near misses over the past two seasons, the Monster Energy CDR Yamaha rider again proved unstoppable in the heavy, challenging conditions at the historic Echo Valley circuit, taking victory in both MX1 motos. The first came ahead of teammate Aaron Tanti, while the second saw Beaton fend off a determined charge from defending champion Kyle Webster in a spirited battle. Nathan Crawford rounded out the podium fight with a pair of impressive third-place finishes.

With Kyle Webster caught up as an innocent victim in a turn-one crash in Moto One, Dean Ferris and Wilson Todd were also among those to go down. Beaton has now stretched his championship lead to 40 points over Webster at the halfway mark of the season, holding 195 points to Webster’s 155.

It’s far from an unassailable margin in motocross, where fortunes can change in an instant, but Webster’s DNF in the opening moto could prove costly by season’s end.

“It was pretty important I had a good day here and keep the momentum in my favour,” Beaton explained after extending his title advantage. “Kyle won the Gillman round, and I didn’t want him to get the win here and build momentum, so I was determined to keep things in my favour.”

Beaton also praised his team for dialling in the bike in difficult conditions.

“The team did a great job with the bike as this track can be a difficult one to get setup right,” he said. “Not only do they have to keep on top of suspension and chassis with the hills and the ruts, but also because we are a little above sea level, there is also some motor fine-tuning and the team was spot-on today.”

Across the other classes at Echo Valley, Alex Larwood (Honda Racing Australia) and Noah Ferguson (Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha) shared MX2 race wins, although it was Kayd Kingsford (Honda Racing Australia) who secured the overall honours. Hayden Downie (XLR Yamaha) dominated MX3, while Blake Bohannon completed a flawless MX85 campaign.

Nathan Crawford delivered one of his strongest performances of the 2026 season with a pair of third-place finishes in MX1, earning second overall and continuing his climb back up the championship standings.

MX1

After Beaton narrowly edged out Webster and Ferris in MX1 Superpole, anticipation was high for a blockbuster opening moto. However, the race was turned upside down in the opening corner as multiple riders hit the deck, leaving Ferris too battered to continue for the remainder of the day and Webster sidelined.

Webster voiced frustration over the incident and track conditions.

“I understand everyone is racing for position, but track preparation needs to improve,” Webster said. “It shouldn’t be slippery on one side and rolled in on the other. Whether this could have been avoided or not is impossible to know, but they really need to look at how the track is being prepared.”

Once racing settled, Tanti led the early laps before Beaton moved into control, while Crawford locked down third as the leading trio distanced themselves from the field.

Aaron Tanti backed up teammate Jed Beaton with a strong and consistent day at Toowoomba, finishing second in moto one and fourth in moto two to secure third overall in MX1.

Todd Waters, Zachary Watson and Luke Zielinski completed positions four through six, while Todd recovered to eighth behind Rhys Budd, with Jacob Sweet and Connor Rossandich rounding out the top 10.

Moto two delivered the battle fans had hoped for, with Webster determined to bounce back after his opening-race disappointment. He pushed Beaton hard throughout, while Crawford remained close enough to capitalise.

But just as Webster looked capable of mounting a late challenge, Beaton answered emphatically with the fastest lap of the day to seal another race win.

Crawford crossed the line tucked onto Webster’s rear wheel, followed by Tanti, Waters, Watson, Budd, Zielinski, Todd and Levi Rogers.

When the points were tallied, Beaton claimed another dominant round win, while Crawford secured second overall on countback from Tanti after the pair finished level on points.

“Any podium result in this class is a good day, and I have had two in the first four rounds and not finished outside the top five so far, so the consistency has been good,” Tanti said. “The gap to the leaders is also coming down, so my speed and fitness at each round continues to improve, so that is pleasing.

“It was also to get a result like that with a heap of friends and family in attendance. It’s nice to have the extra support at the track and after the last couple of years, give them a result to cheer about.”

Beaton now holds a commanding 40-point championship lead over Webster, while Tanti sits third on 146 points ahead of Todd (128), Waters (122), Watson (112) and Crawford (107), who has continued an impressive recovery after sitting 13th following round one.

Photo of motocross rider Kayd Kingsford at round four of the 2026 ProMX Championships at Echo Valley, Toowoomba , QLD
Kayd Kingsford claimed the MX2 overall at Toowoomba with consistent 2-2 finishes, overcoming recent collarbone surgery to close the championship gap to just 11 points.

MX2

The MX2 class welcomed a third different moto winner for 2026, with Noah Ferguson storming to victory in moto two after breaking clear of the field.

Larwood had earlier delivered a similar front-running performance in Moto One, but it was Kayd Kingsford who made the biggest gains of the weekend with a consistent 2-2 scorecard, earning him the overall victory.

Larwood’s early crash in moto two, combined with a sore shoulder, allowed Kingsford, just three weeks removed from collarbone surgery, to slash the championship gap to only 11 points, with Larwood leading 164 to 155. Byron Dennis and Dylan Walsh remain firmly in contention on 151 and 147 points respectively.

“It was a really strong weekend,” Kingsford said. “I was happy with my speed and fitness considering everything that has happened these past few weeks.

“In race two, I was honestly in control mode. I knew what was happening behind me and where everyone was.”

Photo of motocross rider Dylan Walsh at round four of the 2026 ProMX Championships at Echo Valley, Toowoomba , QLD
Dylan Walsh continued his strong form in MX2 at Toowoomba, using solid 4-3 moto finishes to secure second overall and stay firmly in the championship hunt.

Walsh’s 4-3 results secured second overall.

“The track was really good here – I enjoyed how it was prepared and how it shaped up,” Walsh said. “I didn’t get the best start in Moto 1, but I felt really good, and then changed something for the second race, which helped my start. I lost a bit of that good feeling during the race, but it was a good day overall – we’re making solid strides and we’ll keep pushing hard to be in the fight at the end.”

Ryder Kingsford completed the podium in third overall with 3-5 finishes, while Larwood (1-12) and Ferguson (14-1) endured mixed days after crashes and recovery rides.

Privateer Hayden Downie delivered a dominant MX3 performance at Toowoomba, controlling both motos to complete a perfect clean sweep and underline his class pace in the 2026 ProMX round.

MX3

Privateer Hayden Downie was in a class of his own in MX3, dominating both motos to complete a perfect day, while Kiwi Hayden Draper and Seth Morrow mirrored each other’s results to fill the podium.

Draper’s 2-2 finishes extended his championship lead to 35 points over Riley Burgess, who moved into second overall in the standings.

“I didn’t have the speed to match Hayden today, so taking a 2-2 was the best thing I could do in the circumstances and gain some points in the championship,” Draper explained. “This track is always tough and seems to be one that can shape a championship, so it was important to put together a decent day and I’m happy I was able to achieve it today.”

Round three standout Heath Fisher slipped to third in the championship after finishing sixth overall at Toowoomba, while Jackson Fuller remained consistent in fourth.

Photo of motocross rider Blake Bohannon at round four of the 2026 ProMX Championships at Echo Valley, Toowoomba , QLD
Blake Bohannon capped off a flawless 2026 MX85 campaign at Toowoomba with another perfect round, fighting back from a moto two crash to complete a season clean sweep and finish on maximum points.

MX85

The MX85 title wrapped up exactly how it began — with complete control from Blake Bohannon.

The NSW youngster capped a perfect season with another pair of wins, although he faced a scare in moto two after face-planting into sticky mud on lap four before charging back to the front.

His Toowoomba performance completed a clean sweep of the season, finishing on a maximum 150 points ahead of Jayce Stocker (111) and Liam Millard (100).

At just 13 years old, Bohannon will now turn his attention to the final two MX3 rounds after receiving age dispensation to race against the nation’s leading Under-18 riders.

Stocker stayed closest to Bohannon in moto one, while Ethan Wolfe finished second in the finale after Bohannon passed him with two laps remaining. Maxi Harris and Archie Black shared the third-place finishes.

The 2026 ProMX Championship continues with round five at Appin on Sunday, June 14.
