Jay Wilson Survives Wild Weekend For Another Japanese Motocross Championship Win

Jay Wilson has around a 70-point lead in the Japanese Motocross Championship with just a few rounds to go.

Jay Wilson had a wild weekend at round five of the Japanese Motocross championship finishing with 1-4 results to take the round win, but also endured a spectacular step through the handlebars during moto two that has left him feeling sore and sorry.

Wilson was able to get the win in the first moto on what is one of the more sandy-based circuits in Japan after taking control of the race on the opening lap. He motored away to a comfortable gap and kept the chasing back at bay for the remainder of the moto to add another race victory to his 2024 tally.

Race two proved to be a little more eventful as Wilson was tucked into second place and starting to pour the pressure on when he hit a kicker on the jump face of a step-down double and was instantly thrown forward on the bike. His momentum tossed him over the handlebars and he fell to earth at a rapid rate of knots. Fortunately, nothing was broken on his bike and his body and after taking a moment or two to
regain his composure, he re-joined the race and worked his way back through the field as best he could but only managed to get to fourth by race end.

“That was a good hit, and I haven’t crashed like that in a while,” Wilson commented after the race. “Everything seemed under control then as I rode off that jump face, the rear of the bike grabbed a bump and forced the back of the bike up and I just remember going over the bars and winding up the windows. Certainly, don’t need to be doing that again.

“I’m thankful I was able to keep racing and my bike wasn’t too badly damaged, so I was able to finish the race. I didn’t think a 1-4 would get the win, but that was a nice surprise when I came back off the track.”

Wilson has around a 70-point lead in the championship with just a few rounds to go. The Japanese Motocross Championships now take a summer break but there is no rest for Wilson who will continue with his test duties throughout the racing break.
