Jason Doyle, one of Speedway Australia’s most capped riders has accepted a call-up for next month’s Poland versus Australia Test, which will take place at Rybnik on Wednesday, May 3rd.
Doyle will lead a strong squad, consisting of Speedway of Nations team-mates, Jack Holder and Max Fricke. They will be joined by 2012 World Champion, Chris Holder as well as campaigned Aussie’s Brady Kurtz and Rohan Tungate.
Doyle’s return to Team Australia makes him available for selection for this year’s Speedway World Cup, the popular 5-man team format which will replace Speedway of Nations every three years.
2022 was one of the most successful campaigns in recent years for Team Australia, lifting the coveted trophy after a 20-year wait. Speedway World Cup will take place in Wroclaw, Poland from the 25th to the 29th of July.
Speaking ahead of the first international test of the year, Doyle said: “After racing in the Aussie titles back home this Winter and recharging the batteries, I’ve had time to reflect on my international commitments. A return to the traditional Team format in the World Cup now comes around only every three years and I felt that’s just too big an opportunity to miss.”
Mark Lemon, Australian Speedway Team Manager added; “Jason has been a stalwart of Team Australia Speedway and his decision to be available for international duties and World Cup Selection is a huge boost to the team, especially going into this year’s 5-man format. I’m pleased that with some time to reflect and after many discussions about what’s best for Jason and Team, we’re seeing him back in an Australian race suit this year.
