Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing rider, Jake Williams, is closing in on the 15 years 250cc series win after another superb performance at the penultimate round of the Sunshine State Motocross series held at Chinchilla over the weekend.
Williams put together another perfect round on his YZ250F to take three wins from three starts to take the round win and edge closer to the series victory. Williams dominated at Chinchilla, leading every lap of every race on his 250 and will just need a smart days‰Ûª racing at the final round in Toowoomba to clinch the 2016 series win.
He backed that up with a third place finish in the 13-15 years 125 division after some tight racing with Bailey Malkiewicz and Jack Kukas. Williams wasn‰Ûªt getting great starts and was forced to battle his way forward in the opening two races to finish third. The final moto saw Williams start with the top two and moved into the lead at the midway point. He looked to be riding away with the win but hit a rock in a rut and fell from his bike with one lap remaining.
His 3-3-2 results left him in third for the round and he sits second in the series just three points from the lead so the final round is set for a grandstand finish.
‰ÛÏOverall, I‰Ûªm happy with the way I rode and a tried to keep fighting each race out to the very end. The 250 was awesome, I got great starts and was able to focus on my lines and technique so that was good.
‰ÛÏOn the 125, I wasn‰Ûªt getting good starts and had to move through a few riders before I could get clear track so I need to work on getting out of the gate better on the 125. When I did get a good start, I was able to lead the race but then I fell. Hopefully, I can get it all together for the final round in Toowoomba,‰Û
