Iconic North Brisbane ‘Glenn Fien’ Cup Fires Up This Saturday

Posted:

Riders will put the icing on the cake for the dirt track season when the Gear Factor 2014 North Brisbane Cup is held this Saturday, December 13 at Raubers Road, Northgate.

The North Brisbane Cup is Queensland‰Ûªs premier non-championship Dirt Track meeting for the year and was traditionally staged in September up to 2011.

The Cup is now named in honour of Glenn Fien who passed away suddenly in 2011 shortly after assuming the presidency after a break of a few years, and by moving the meeting to December it give riders from all disciplines a chance to compete in a top level dirt track meeting.

This Saturday will see another classy line-up of current and former stars take to the track.

Almost 40 entries have been received for the feature event which will culminate with a 20 lap final around the track, turned in to an American-style TT circuit with the addition of a ‰Û÷hump‰Ûª of around 600 ‰ÛÒ 800 mm.

Local star Jace Castles won the Cup in 2012, but missed the event last year due to injury.

His toughest opposition may well come from three 16 year olds who were the placegetters in the Junior Feature at the 2013 staging ‰ÛÒ Kye Thomson, Kielan Cox and Jarred Brook, with the latter in particular already making a huge impact in his first senior outings.

Sydney rider Luke Gough and speedway regulars Josh Grajczonek, Nick Morris, Jake Allen, Tyson Nelson and Ricky Barney will also lay claims for honours.

Another feature of the meeting will be Invitational Legends class which will see stars of various motorcycle racing disciplines take to the track.

Recent world speedway champion Jason Crump will line up against motocross stars Stephen Gall, Daniel Reardon and Micky Cook while road racing will be well represented by Chris Vermeulen, Garry McCoy, Karl Muggeridge, Daniel Stauffer and Troy Herfoss.

Both the Dirt Track Sidecars and the Womens classes will feature the winners from last month‰Ûªs Australian Senior Track Championships, while Quads and various junior classes, both featuring some of the country best talents, will also be part of the big program of racing.

Gates will open at 9:00am, practice cat 11:00am with racing following on after practice, and continuing in to the night.
