Husqvarna Riders Hang Tough At Wonthaggi

Posted:

Berry Sweet-backed Husqvarna Motocross Racing Team registered several PBs and some gutsy efforts as the third round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals series took place at Wonthaggi in Victoria.

Husqvarna‰Ûªs newly-crowned Queensland MX1 champion Brock Winston braved the pain and impediment of cracked ribs suffered during last weekend's Queensland title-winning event, to card his best finish yet, a seventh in the first moto.

Winston put everything into his first moto, but despite difficulty breathing, still dug deep and dragged himself home in 13th in the second moto.

‰ÛÏI cracked my ribs in that second last race at Coolum last weekend, and on the start line for Race 1 I told my mechanic that I didn't think I‰Ûªd be able to finish." Winston admitted. "But I put everything into it and was actually fifth for most of the race before running off the track and ending up seventh.

"Without being able to use those muscles in your torso I really couldn't hold myself forward or breathe properly and the harder I'd get on the gas the worse it would be. I could only manage 13th in the second Moto, and I have to be happy with that for today.‰Û

Nick Sutherland was another to feel the worse for wear after a MX2 first-moto crash hard enough to break his bike, but still managed 13th in the second.

‰ÛÏI was up in 8th with the lead pack but there was this jump that was just destroyed and had a big kicker that caught a heap of people." Sutherland explained. "I had a massive one and hurt shoulder pretty bad.

"I‰Ûªve been to the doctor this morning, and there‰Ûªs a few things it could be ‰ÛÒ I‰Ûªll have a scan tomorrow to find out the extent of it, but there‰Ûªs very little movement. I rode the second race and was up front for half half of it but just couldn‰Ûªt keep it happening and faded back.‰Û

MX Development category rider Egan Mastin was third on the day, and sits third in the U19 championship after three rounds, just four points in arrears of championship leader Jack Simpson.

‰ÛÏI'm pretty disappointed with how today went but still to come away with third is alright." Mastin stated. "In that first one I was leading, but I went off the track over a jump and Simpson got me with only two corners to go.

"In the second one I went from seventh through to fifth but stayed there. I think I'm six or seven behind in the championship now - I'm definitely going to be working hard in the next couple of weeks so I can come out swinging at Murray Bridge.‰Û
