HRC Honda's Evgeny Bobryshev has lead home the Factory Yamaha duo of Romain Febvre and Jeremy Van Horebeek at the opening round of the Italian Motocross Championship ( Internazionali d‰ÛªItalia championship) held in Sardinia on Sunday the 31st of January.
The Italian championship is regular pre season destination for the top MXGP riders with a quick fire three round national championship being held from late January through to the middle of February.
In front of 10,000 enthusiastic Italian fans, it was MX1 debutant Tim Gasger who lead the field at the start of the day's MX1 race before he eventually tired allowing 2015 MXGP World Champion Febvre to take the race win ahead of Van Horebeek, with Bobryshev in thid.
In the MX2 race it was Jeffery Herlings who showed he was already back up to speed after recovering from a broken femur suffered in the middle of the 2015 season, racing to a comfortable win ahead of Cervellin and Rockstar Husqvarna's Max Anstie.
In the big final for the day the top 20 riders from both the MX1 and MX2 races lined up to contest the Elite final.
It was Bobryshev who jumped to the front of the field early ahead of Febvre, with the Frenchman closing in on the Russian as they fought for the race lead for the majority of the race. Bobryshev held strong in the final stages of the race as the two riders battled though lappers to take the win ahead of Febvre, while Van Horebeek finished on the final step of the podium after overcoming a determined Herlings, who finished 4th and as the leading MX2 rider.
The second round of the Italian motocross championship heads to Lamezia Terme on the 7th of February.
