Honda World Motocross aiming to get back on track in Loket

Posted:

Honda World Motocross' Rui Gon̤alves and Evgeny Bobryshev will put the disappointment of narrowly missing out on the podium positions in Lommel behind them as they head to the 12th round of the MX1 World Championship in Loket this weekend (6-7 August).

Rui Gon̤alves was particularly unlucky to miss out on the rostrum in Belgium, what would have been his first rostrum of the 2011 season.

His performance on-track was deserving of a top-three overall position but unfortunately an un-characteristic engine problem with his normally bulletproof Honda CRF450R cost him on the very last lap of the second moto. Despite this, he still earned valuable points across both heats and actually improved his championship position to sixth.

"Loket is one of the original and natural tracks that has been there for a long time and comes with a lot of motocross history," Gon̤alves said. :It is always a special atmosphere there; the fans can get right up close and they have really strong support. It is really fast and therefore it is important to get a good start as if you have clear track in front you can clear off quickly."

Evgeny Bobryshev once again displayed his class in Lommel with two excellent rides, but a bad start in the first moto was to put paid to his challenge for a podium position. This is something he will be looking to rectify in Loket, where the start is of utmost importance. The natural topography of the hillside track, close to the city of Karlovy Vary, provides a technical riding challenge that incorporates some steep gradients and some devilishly fast and tight sections.

"Loket I don't really like to be honest. It is very slippy so you cannot push so hard with your speed, you need to ride smart and be careful because there are may small stones and this can affect the grip levels. Being on the Dunlop tyres this year should help because we have really got those tyres working well for us right now. The start is of course really important there particularly. If you get a good start then half the race is done," Bobryshev said.
