Hayden Mellross To Sit Out Washougal

Posted:

Australian Privateer Hayden Mellross will miss this weekends 8th round of the Lucas Oils American Pro Motocross Championship being held at Washougal.

The New South Welshman has impressed in his first year of racing the American Motocross Championship, consistently posting top twenty moto and overall round results in the highly competitive 250 class including a season best 15-15 moto results at Muddy Creek for 13th overall.

"My highlight of the season was obviously Muddy Creek, I have raced muddy creek four times before so for me I was going in there confident and already prepared for how the track is." Mellross commented when fullnoise.com.au contacted him this morning

"I have found the first year racing nations really tough," he added. The speed and the intensity is crazy fast and I'm just having trouble adapting to the tracks each weekend.

"The toughest thing would for sure be the tracks, I'm finding it really hard to turn up to the pro national and have 5 minutes free practice before you have to put your fastest lap down.

After paying his way through the opening seven rounds of the championship, the big trip to Washougal proved to be out of reach for the likeable Australian with a decision being made to sit out this weekends race and focus on heading to the final three rounds of the series to complete his first season of racing in the United States.

"My parents, coach and I all decided that the expensive to go out to Washougal was just to much." Mellross explained. "We thought that it would be good to stay home and use the extra time to work on a few things im struggling on before the final 3 rounds."

With the season drawing to a close, Mellross is looking forward to enjoying the final rounds in the U.S before making any plans on his future.

"The plan is to just have fun, enjoy the journey and just see where it goes. I for sure want to be back here in America next year racing so that's the goal." Mellross concluded.
