The AUS-X Open kicks off tomorrow with racing slated for Saturday night at Quodos Bank Arena in Sydney for DPH Motorsport Factory Husqvarna Racing.

SX2 racer Hayden Mellross heads into the final round still well and truly in championship contention on the back of his overall win at round four held in Adelaide.

The season has not gone entirely to plan for the New South Welshman, kicking the season off with a couple of broken big toes before doing it tough at the Geelong round, only just making the nights final after a trip to the LCQ.

Despite the setbacks, Mellross heads into the final round of the Australian Supercross Championships, just 11 points behind championship leader Jay Wilson and knows better than anyone that anything can happen at the Aus-X Finale.

With this in mind, Mellross heads into the final round, knowing if he focuses on himself and taking the win, he will have done all he can in his bid to win his first senior Australian title.

"What a season so far! New bike, broken toes, a few fourths as they started to heal and some race wins when it counts," Mellross reflected.

"I personally really like the triple crown format. It really brings out the consistency of everyone ‰ÛÒ when you‰Ûªre trying to win a championship, you have to put in consistent rides to get that championship.

I‰Ûªm going in there this weekend to just solely win. I‰Ûªve put a lot of hard work in, and I feel great. I know that, if I ride like I can and let everything unfold like it‰Ûªs going to, anything can happen no matter what.

Team Owner Dale Hocking can't wait for this weekend's big finale and watching his rider take aim at the big prize.

"It's great to finish not only the season but our year, at an event like this: huge crowds, close racing and some of the world's best to show that our homegrown talent is competitive around the world," Hocking commented.

"Hayden is focused on doing the job in front of him. He wants to take this SX2 Championship, and his only option is to win this weekend and let rest of the cards fall.

Joining Mellross this weekend at Homebush will be regular SX2 team-mate, Dylan Wills along with international star and AMA regular Dean Wilson who will race for the team in the SX1 class.

"Dylan is as motivated as I've ever seen him," Hocking added. Flashes of speed in previous rounds and a few good race results have given him confidence, and he wants to perform in front of his home crowd, so he's definitely going to be one to watch.

"Dean Wilson is riding one of our bikes this weekend, so it's great to have a presence in the SX1 class in the final round. Make sure you come past the truck and say hi to all three guys over the weekend!"
