GYTR Rockstar Yamaha hit the podium at Maitland Super X

Posted:

GYTR Rockstar Yamaha's Luke Arbon turned in his best performance of the 2011 Super X season finishing on the podium in third place contesting the Pro Lites category at round four of the championship held at Maitland.

After a tough first round in the mud, Arbon has been growing in stature ever since and turned in some promising results at the following rounds. Arbon entered the Maitland round looking to post three consistent finishes in the triple challenge and lock down a top five result.

He more than matched his goals, taking second in his heat race, then nailing down an impressive 6-7-2 finish in the main events to take third on the night and his first podium appearance in the Pro Lites class in Super X.

"I hadn't been feeling the best this week, so I was just hoping to have a consistent night and not do anything stupid," Arbon explains.

"But after my heat race when I saw I was able to run the speed of the championship contenders, I thought I had a pretty good chance of getting inside the top five."

"I wasn't getting great starts in the finals but I was able to stay out of trouble in the first two turns and make some passes early to get up the front. In the first two, I was a bit too nice to a few riders and let them pass but it's something I will learn from."

"The last race was awesome and I was in second almost the whole time and to finish within a few seconds of Matt Moss was pretty cool."

"I want to thank the team for all the help and support and hope this is the start of some good results in the Pro Lites class."

Guest rider, Sam Duncanson posted a solid fourth overall on his YZ250F in the Under 19 class. Duncanson slotted into second early in the race but made a costly mistake exiting turn two and several riders managed to squeeze by.

Duncanson fought all the way to the finish but came up one place short of a podium finish.

The fourth on the night now puts him in fourth overall for the series and only seven points from second with one round remaining.

"I'm a bit frustrated with myself," Duncanson fumes after the event. "I put myself in a good only to let it slip and on these tight tracks and short races, you can't afford to do that."

"I have one more chance next week and I will be giving it everything I have."

The Super X juniors has Yamaha Junior Racings, Billy Jackson leading the points after round four. Jackson came home in third place on the weekend at Maitland and now has a six point lead over second place with one round remaining.

The GYTR Rockstar Yamaha team now head for Brisbane for the fifth and final round of the 2011 Monster Energy Super X Championship.
