Glenn Allerton goes for ASBK title

Posted:

Procon Maxima BMW's Glenn Allerton goes into this weekend's 7th round of the ASBK at Symmons Plains with the opportunity to clinch the Australian Superbike Championship.

Allerton heads to Tasmania with a 67-point lead over his nearest rival, Jamie Stauffer. If everything goes to plan Allerton will take an historic victory for BMW Motorrad. It will be the first Australian Championship for the dynamic and powerful BMW S 1000 RR and the first major title since 1977 when Ken Blake and Joe Eastmure won the Castrol 6 Hour on an R 100 S.

Procon Maxima BMW Team Principal, Wayne Hepburn, is looking forward to an exciting weekend.

"Glenn and the team go into the round with confidence. Glenn had a victory in Malaysia on a BMW S 1000 RR two weekends ago, so he is in top form. We will not be feeling any extra pressure and will be doing what has been successful during the season. If we get the process right, the results will follow," said Hepburn.

Glenn is excited by the prospect of performing before a large crowd and the possibility of securing his second ASBK title and his first on the BMW S 1000 RR.

"To start the week I was over in WA for the Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show and the amount of interest that the BMW S 1000 RR is attracting from the public is amazing. Later this week I will at Launceston BMW Motorcycles talking to fellow BMW enthusiasts before heading to the track. Then it is down to business," added Allerton.

The round will be held in conjunction with the V8 Supercars.
