Free bike transport for Supermoto Championship competitors

Posted:

Generous support from sponsors has enabled the Supermoto Club of WA to organise free bike transport for Eastern States competitors in the Striker Crushing and Screening Australian Supermoto Championships in December.

At the close of entries, 16 Eastern States competitors had signed up to take on defending Australian Supermoto Champion, Italian Davide Gozzini on a Franzone TM450SMX, British ace Christian Iddon on a Crushing and Mining Equipment KTM450SMR and the best from the west, including young gun Liam Robertson on a Yamaha YZ450.

About 40 riders will be competing in the championships, to be held on December 3, 4 and 5 at the Collie Motorplex in WA's South West.

Twelve bikes will be brought to WA from NSW, three from Queensland and one from Victoria for the championships at no cost to competitors, with free or subsidised return transport for the bikes.

Discounted accommodation is also being arranged.

Supermoto Club of WA president Bryan Rankin said the club realised the difficulty Eastern States competitors faced in getting to the championships and secured enough sponsorship funding to pay for the bike transport, with help from GKR Transport.

"We are aiming to keep the costs for Eastern States competitors around the same as that paid by WA riders," Rankin said.

"Thanks to the fantastic support from our sponsors, we have been able to achieve that."

Eastern States competitors include Bo Laing on a Yamaha YZ450 and Cameron Stronach on a Kawasaki KX450

The finishing touches are being applied to the 1.5km Collie Motorplex circuit, which is being transformed into a custom-made supermoto track by earthmoving and transport firm B&J Catalano.

Additions to the Motorplex circuit include more bitumen turns and a 400m dirt section.

Supermoto Club of WA vice-president and treasurer Joe Grasso, who organised Gozzini's visit from Europe for the championships, said the new track was world-class.

"I've been to supermoto tracks all around the world and I would rank our track as being in the top five," Grasso said.

"The track would be more than capable of hosting a round of the world championship."

The event is also supported by Healthway WA and Coates Hire Service.

Motorsport is popular in WA's South West and a big crowd is expected. Full catering will be provided at the track, along with a bar.

Entry is $10 for adults. Children under 13 are free when accompanied by an adult.
