Faith still has Supercross title hope following Avalon win

Posted:

American Gavin Faith has taken his second win in the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship for Penrite Honda at round 4 in Avalon Victoria last Saturday night and despite it being a long shot for the title he still sees a fighting chance.

Marking his second win of the season and third podium, Faith is on the move to make up for DNF in round 2 which affected his position in the championship. This much needed win has moved him back to third overall.

"Not finishing round 2 has hurt me however my win on the weekend has given me a fighting chance. Indoor racing is my specialty and I am focused on giving my all in an effort to take out both nights," said Faith.

Penrite Honda team-mater Josh Cachia had another trying round after qualifying well inside of the top 10 but a fall in the final marked a disappointing end to his home round.

"I am really upset! I wanted a good result on the weekend, the bike is running great and I felt good. It's like Russian roulette going into the first turn. There are 20 riders being funnelled into a 6 meter first turn.

I need to get out of the gate better and keep out of trouble. I want to finish strong." Cachia said.

The team has a mathematical chance of winning and have strong focus on success in the back to back round at Sydney this weekend.

There is a strong drive to win each night and claim the most victories.

Discussing the plan for the final two rounds of the championship, Assistant manager Daniel Kersnovske said; "We can't control what other teams and riders do, we can only control what we do. Gavin needs to win both nights to improve his overall position. This is what we are focused on."

Round 5 and 6, the final rounds of the Australian Supercross Championship will be held this weekend at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on November 12 and 13, 2016.
