Fresh from dominating last month's Finke Desert Race, KTM is carrying high hopes into Hattah with Australian Off-Road Championship contender Milner
Close to 700 riders are ready to converge on Mildura, in Victoria this weekend to compete at the 2018 Hattah Desert Race, the 21st running of the ever-growing event this weekend, 7-8 July.

Fresh from dominating last month's Finke Desert Race, KTM is carrying high hopes into Hattah with Australian Off-Road Championship contenders Daniel Milner and Lyndon Snodgrass, both armed with powerful and race-proven KTM 500 EXC-F machinery.

Last year at Hattah saw Milner claim a convincing win in his first appearance with KTM, charging to victory in the four-hour affair and successfully managing his Type 1 diabetes in a special result for the 26-year-old Victorian. Joining him on the all-KTM podium one year ago in third position was Snodgrass, aiming to improve further upon the result this time out.

"Last year, since I hadn't done Hattah for so long, it was a hard race, and it's good to know what I'm up against this time around," Milner commented. "It's helped me out a lot more, getting the right bike set-up and everything is falling into place really nicely for us at the moment.

"I know what I have to do to get out there and get on the top step of the podium. It is such an important race to win, and it is a really big achievement for me, especially with Type 1 diabetes - it tests me as a rider on the track and also with my diabetes. If I can win again that would be unreal, so we will give it 110 percent and see what happens on Sunday!"

Lyndon Snodgrass is equally excited to get this weekend underway
Lyndon Snodgrass is equally excited to get this weekend underway and is looking to make it two KTM bikes up the pointy end of the field.

"I'm really keen for this weekend, and it's been a big lead-up for us, with a really solid few weeks coming in," Snodgrass said. "Finishing third last year was pretty awesome to stand on the podium, so I'm looking forward to trying to improve upon that.

"The biggest challenge at Hattah is that it's four hours long, so you have to keep up the pace the whole way and not get tired. At the same time, with so many riders on the track together, you have to make sure you get through cleanly and stay consistent."

‰ÛÏI felt good at Finke, and I wanted to make sure I maintained my preparation for Hattah by spending as much time in Mildura as I could. I was 4th overall last year, and I want to improve on that.‰Û

Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team duo Daniel Sanders and Fraser Higlett will also head to the 2018 Hattah Desert Race, in search of victory in the high-profile Victorian event.

Sanders has finished second outright at Hattah for the past two years running, establishing himself as one of the pre-race favourites aboard the Husqvarna FE 501.

"I'm excited going into Hattah with the Husqvarna team, and I've been putting in a lot of time training with Fraser, so it's all looking good. We are as well prepared as we can be going in after working really hard on the engine and suspension tuning, which adds to the confidence." Sanders said.

"This is the one event on the calendar that I really wanted to win this year, and after finishing second two years in a row, I've dug deep and put a lot of effort in.

"There are a lot of people behind me who have worked hard too, so I really want to do it for both myself and the team around me.

"The Husqvarna 501 is the way to go; you need all the 'ponies' you can get in a race like this, so it's a really strong package and I feel like we have a point to prove out there this year."

Racing alongside him, in a new-look Hattah roster, Higlett will pilot the Husqvarna FE 450 after finishing runner-up in the Under 19s division one, year ago.

"Everything feels really good heading into this weekend, and I'm loving the Husqvarna FE 450 in the desert. It's been a good step from the 250, and I have put a lot of time on it now, so I'm looking forward to going racing." Higlett said.

"Obviously the plan is to win my class and go as well as I can outright, but most of all I want to have a consistent race, and if I can do that over the four hours, then the result will show. It should be good in what will be my third time at Hattah, so I'm excited to be with the Husqvarna team this year."
