Exciting Mix to Represent WA in A4DE Trophy Team competition

Posted:

Hardened experience blended with an exciting batch of young talent will make up the Western Australian Trophy Team in next week's 2015 Yamaha Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE).

The West Australians head to Wynyard with just one team entered in the Senior Trophy Team competition, and are realistic about their expectations for the event.

Nevertheless, Team Manager Winton Lawton says the experience of riding against the nation's best riders will only help improve the standard within the state.

"WA is in a bit of different position to most states; we struggle to get to the point of entering a top-level state team," Lawton said.

"In this case we've got three juniors (in the senior team) as we don't have enough numbers to enter a junior team, but our number one and number two in the state are both juniors so we've put them in.

"Logistically it's a bit of a mixed bag getting to Tasmania compared to any other state; we've only got six riders going, but (at the same time) they will also bring their vintage knowledge to the team and the week."

The state's two best riders in Justin Parker and Jesse Lawton will lead the charge for WA in a team that ranges from the ages of 18 to 51.

"For my young fella (Jesse), this will be his second one and he is only 18 and number two in the state," Lawton said.

"Our number one in the state, Justin Parker, on the back of Jesse pushing him all the way in local competitions has just moved over to the east to pursue a career in riding motorbikes.

"Lachlan Carter and Nathan Watson will both be riding their second Four Day events in Tasmania, while 43-year-old Tony Parker is keen to finish and get a good result in his third Four Day.

"Our final member Greg Kay will be taking part in his seventh Four Day Enduro after also completing a Six Day, Finke and a Kamfari, and at 51 he is looking to become the oldest WA state team member ever!

"From a WA point of view there are some good things happening, but the only way WA is going to pick up their speed is to start competing more in the east, and it's good to see a couple of our riders heading over there."
