Dylan Walsh opened his 2025 Australian Supercross Championship campaign with a strong and consistent showing at Redcliffe’s Kayo Stadium, Queensland, securing a pair of sixth-place overall finishes across the opening two rounds.
The 27-year-old Kiwi showed speed early, qualifying fourth with a 48.038s lap as the track continued to dry under the Queensland sun. In Saturday’s opening SX1 final, he charged to an impressive fourth place, before a mid-pack start in the second race saw him work his way through to 10th, placing him sixth overall for the night.
Walsh carried that pace into Sunday’s second round, again qualifying fourth and taking fifth in his Heat Race. He backed it up with 7-5 results in the two finals to claim another sixth overall, leaving Redcliffe seventh in the SX1 championship standings — just two points shy of fourth place.
Reflecting on his debut weekend, Walsh admitted it was a learning curve. “It was a bit of a mixed bag for me across the opening two rounds of AUSX – which is to be expected given it’s my first ever supercross on a 450, so to finish P4 in race one after running up front I thought was pretty good,” he explained. “The jet lag caught up to me late on Saturday, though, and had an impact on the result, but then some solid bike changes on Sunday made things better for me. It’s great to get these first two out of the way – I’m aiming for podiums from here and thank you to the KTM Racing Team for putting in so much effort.”

In SX2, Noah Ferguson endured a challenging opening round but bounced back with improved form on Sunday. After qualifying 13th on Saturday and transferring directly to the finals, the Queenslander finished outside the top 10 in both motos. Determined to regroup, Ferguson returned stronger for Round 2, finishing ninth overall with 11-7 results. “Redcliffe wasn’t exactly what we were looking for – I know that I can challenge and fight closer towards the front,” he said. “We’ll be putting our best foot forward over the next two weeks to come out swinging in Cronulla.”

It was a tougher start for Byron Dennis, who crashed heavily during Saturday’s Heat Race and sat out Sunday’s round to focus on recovery. “I’m a bit disappointed with my fall during Saturday’s Heat Race – I was in a good position there and then took a bit of a hit, which was a shame,” Dennis said. “I tweaked my back – I tried to ride through it on Sunday, but it just wasn’t right, so we thought it was smart to prioritise recovery.”
KTM Racing Team-supported Jackson Fuller continued to gain valuable experience in the SX3 ranks aboard his KTM 250 SX-F. After missing the final on Saturday, the young rider rebounded on Sunday to finish 13th in Round 2.
The opening weekend also saw strong results for KTM-mounted riders across other categories, with Hayden Mellross delivering a fifth overall in SX1 on Saturday before climbing to a podium finish in third on Sunday. Meanwhile, KTM Junior Racing Team duo Nate Perrett and Ollie Birkitt hold second and third in the KTM SX85 Futures Class standings, rounding out a strong start to the 2025 campaign for KTM.
