Dinsdale leads resurgent GYTR team in Victoria

Posted:

The GYTR Yamaha MXD team put in a much improved performance at round three of the MX Nationals at Wonthaggi with Joel Dinsdale landing on the podium in third place and team mate Jay Wilson fighting hard for a fifth place finish.

After a crash filled opening round, both riders were out to make amends at the loamy Wonthaggi track and get themselves back in the championship battle. The day started out strongly with Dinsdale qualifying in P3 while Wilson took P7 in a tight knit group.

Dinsdale worked hard in the opening laps of moto one after a poor start and had clawed his way into the top six. As the laps ran down he continued to move forward and with only a few laps to go, he was in a battle for fourth spot only to hit the turf and lose valuable positions.

He managed to scramble his way back to seventh, but he was motivated to do better in moto two.

A top five start this time saw the 16 year old charger from Mackay right in the thick of the action. He picked off riders and made his way to the rear tyre of the race leader just before the half way stage. He pulled the trigger not long after and once in the lead, he raced off to an impressive race win and with it third spot on the podium.

The solid points haul has moved Dinsdale from 13th to seventh place in the championship standings after two rounds of MXD competition.

‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs been a frustrating start to the season for me as I have had good lap times and put myself in good positions, only to make a mistake and fall off." Dinsdale explained. "I was determined to make any mistakes in the final moto today and I was able to get the win, my first at this level.‰Û

Jay Wilson endured another character building weekend that saw him on the deck in each moto. Wilson has the speed and fitness to match anyone in the class, but small falls have cost him the results he was after.

Jay was involved in a first lap pile up in race one and charged back from 28th on lap 1 to finish in fifth place at the checkered flag. Moto two saw him mistime the start and again found himself at the rear of the field.

He rammed his way towards the front and was in a battle for sixth with another rider they both collided and he fell again. He managed to salvage a seventh place finish and his combined 5-7 results landed him in fifth for the day and move to fifth in the championship.

‰ÛÏIt was another frustrating day where I couldn‰Ûªt get a good start and as a result I had to come from the back each race." Wilson stated. "I can‰Ûªt show my speed as I‰Ûªm always in traffic.

"But it was better than last round and I‰Ûªm moving forward. If I can get my starts worked out, I‰Ûªm sure I will get a good result,‰Û
