Australian Dean Ferris has acquitted himself well in his debut in the FIM World Motocross Championship at Teutschenthal, Germany, yesterday.

Riding for the Martin Honda team the youngster, from Kyogle NSW, carded a 22nd and a 14th place to finish the day in 16th place overall against the best riders in the world.

‰ÛÏI didn‰Ûªt qualify so well so it was difficult to get a good start. For the first moto I made some changes to the gearing and I think I went the wrong way and it was really hard for me to ride," Ferris explained.

"I was battling for nineteenth and I felt like I should have been in the top fifteen quite easily. We went back to the original setting and in the second moto and I fought my way up to fourteenth, so that was alright. Everything was new for me, the format, the bike but the team were really helpful. Fourteenth wasn‰Ûªt too bad for my first time." Ferris concluded.

The debut was a solid effort considering considering Ferris only had a week to get used to a new bike and adapt to a different culture and style of racing. Ferris will return home to Australia this week were he will defend his third place in the Australian Motocross Championship at Albury this weekend.
