2017 Finke Desert racing champion, Daymon Stokie has tragically passed away during the running of the 2018 Deep Well motocross event held in the Northern Territory today, the 27th of January 2018.
Stokie was born in Victoria and spent his early years living in Naracoorte in South Australia, before resiging betwween the rural country town and Alice Springs, the place he considered home.
Along with winning the Finke Desert race in 2017, becoming the first Yamaha rider to win the event in over 30 years for his Active8 Yamaha racing team, Stokie was also the first and only Australian rider to be part of a winning Baja 1000 motorcycle team.
The 27 year olds passing has been a huge shock to the dirt bike community with an outpouring of messages flooding social network pages this afternoon.
