Dave Schwarz to take on the Australian Safari in a warm up for 2012 Dakar

Posted:

Most people don't think of going for 3700 Klm ride as a Warm Up, but that's what Dave Schwarz will do for a bit of shakedown of his bike and riding at this months Sep 22/30th Australian Safari in preparation Dakar.

The 2012 South American Dakar, which starts in the Atlantic Ocean City of Mar de Plata, Argentina, is only 5 months away, the ASO Dakar Orginisation received over 310 applications for entry, and only 220 riders were accepted for safety and comfort reasons, they will compete over 14 grueling stages and with only one rest day, the event covers 5 stages in Argentina, 5 Chile and 4 in Peru the Rallye will be finishing Jan 15 in the Pacific Ocean City of Lima in Peru.

In 2005 Schwarz competed in the African Dakar for the First Time riding for Motorex Australia and came home in a amazing 3rd outright in the 450 Super Production Class, and 37th outright overall, he also entered the 2008 only for the event to be cancelled in the last minute due to Guerilla Snipers who were go to target Dakar competitors once they got to Mauritania.

In 2009 the event was moved due to safety reasons to South America and Schwarz took up unfinished 08 business, at one stage sitting as high as 12th Overall, then settling in to be consistently inside the Top 20 Overall, only to be shattered in stage 13 with a 4 hrs time penalty in last kilometre of a dubious late included check point, dropping Dave down to 36th overall.

Although generously supported by Husaberg Australia with Bikes and Parts and Logistics, Dave still needs to come up with about half of the $125,000 it takes to compete in this Iconic Event.

As for any motorcycle enthusiast the idea of ever competing 14 days, with only one rest day and riding a 36 litre, 180 kilo, 450 Husaberg Factory Rally bike over 9,000 in the Mystique Dakar Rally is only a dream, but one that can be achieved with the Heart and Determination and Passion for Adventure!

Anyone who would like a Full 2012 Sponsorship Proposal or even assist with donations as small as $50 will help this Australian Compete against the best Rallye Riders in the World please email rholden66@bigpond.com
