Daniel Milner Makes It Four Successive A4DE Crowns

Posted:

CDR Yamaha‰Ûªs Daniel Milner has written himself into the record books by taking out his fourth Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE) title on the trot at Blackwood Park in Penguin on Saturday.

After leading from start to finish all week, the 24-year-old secured the victory with a second placing in the final E2 class moto behind Active8 Yamaha‰Ûªs Beau Ralston on day four - topping off a typically polished A4DE campaign.

Milner‰Ûªs fourth A4DE title sees him join Stefan Merriman as the second most successful rider in the event‰Ûªs history behind six-time winner Shane Watts.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm absolutely stoked with it. It‰Ûªs been such a rough year that I‰Ûªve had in the States, but to come out on top with my fourth one (outright Four Day title) I‰Ûªm absolutely pumped." Milner enthused.

‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs definitely good. Winning Four Days was something that I always looked up to doing as a young fella, with the likes of Shane Watts and all the big boys up there at the time. To get away with four in a row, it has put the biggest smile on my face that‰Ûªs for sure.

‰ÛÏThis one would have to be up there. Coming from such a bad year that I‰Ûªve had ‰ÛÒ it‰Ûªs been the toughest of my career by far being over in the States ‰ÛÒ so this is probably the best. It is Matty‰Ûªs (Phillips) home ground as well, and to beat him over here I‰Ûªm stoked.

‰ÛÏI just kept a level-head really. I tried to eliminate the mistakes and stay smooth for the whole four days. Everything that happened throughout the week worked well, so I was happy with that.‰Û

Milner (also E2 class winner) finished a minute and 27 seconds ahead of KTM Enduro Racing Team‰Ûªs Matthew Phillips in the outright standings, with Phillips‰Ûª delighting his home fans in Tasmania by taking out the E3 class.

‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs a great achievement to add to the list. We‰Ûªve had a really good week down here in Tassie, and I had a big battle with (Daniel) Sanders and (Toby) Price in the E3 class." Phillips commented.

‰ÛÏEven in the final moto, we mixed it up with (Glenn) Kearney and (Mitch) Bowen up there as well, so it wrapped up the week really well with a great fight to the finish. It was a bit dusty and I tried really hard to come back and make it a good race with Toby and Daniel, but didn‰Ûªt make it happen.

"In the outright battle with Daniel (Milner), I was really disappointed with yesterday. I wasn‰Ûªt riding the lines as well as I would have liked to and let the race slip away there, but he was riding really well and hats off to him.

"The atmosphere was awesome with so many fans. I haven‰Ûªt seen a crowd like this at an Australian event for a long time, so I think it is a really good sign for the future. The Tasmanian fans were just happy to have the race here, and I was really lucky to have the support that I did.

‰ÛÏIt was a good fun event and I‰Ûªd do it all again tomorrow.‰Û

Green also claimed his first Four Day E1 class title to follow on from his 2015 Australian Off-Road Championship title in the same class.

‰ÛÏThis is my first Four Day class title so I‰Ûªm really happy about that. It was a really good week and it was really good to come down to Tasmania." Green stated

‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs been great to get the double in this class both here and in the AORC (Australian Off-Road Championship). I‰Ûªve been trying to do this for a very long time, so it‰Ûªs good I‰Ûªve finally been able to pull it off. It‰Ûªs pretty special.

‰ÛÏDay 2 was really difficult when it rained and it got a bit slippery, so I struggled a bit then, but otherwise I had a good week. I knew I had a big lead heading into the final moto, so I just tried to settle in and ride around them. A bit of arm pump slowed me up, but Tye (Simmonds) was flying anyway so it was crazy to watch.‰Û

As expected, each of Tayla Jones (Women‰Ûªs), Damian Smith (Veterans) and David Fleming (Masters) maintained the lead they carried into the last day to take out their respective classes.

Yamaha Racing‰Ûªs Jones put an exclamation mark on her first A4DE title by winning the final moto by 14 seconds over Tasmanian Sophie Coldicutt.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm pretty stoked to end the year on a high by winning the Four Day here, so hopefully I can keep it rolling on for next year." Jones said.

‰ÛÏIt was challenging; the week started off dusty, and then it got wet on day two, then went back to being dusty again before ending on a sick final moto, so there was a bit of everything this week.

‰ÛÏJess (Gardiner) rode really well on day one, so on day two I just tried to stay upright in the slippery conditions and push as hard as I could. I ended up with a fairly big margin (after day two), which gave me a buffer for the rest of the week.

‰ÛÏI started racing motocross when I was younger, so I was just going back to my roots and it was great fun to get out there on the last day and chuck some whips.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm not really sure when it will sink to be honest. I‰Ûªll probably give it a couple of weeks break before I realise how much I miss riding and realise what I achieved this year.‰Û

Both Smith and Fleming had their classifications all but wrapped up heading into the final day, but completed the job in fine style with resounding wins in the final motos for their respective classes.

In a remarkable display of longevity, both have now moved into double digits in terms of Australian Four Day Enduro class titles.

In the Trophy Team competitions, the Victorian team of Milson, Sanders, Peter Boyle, Chris Davey, Riley Graham and Tom Mason ended New South Wales‰Ûª five year stranglehold on the Senior Trophy, while Tasmania led by local hero Phillips recorded the first Junior Trophy Team win in the state‰Ûªs history.

New South Wales made the most of a time penalty suffered by day three leaders Queensland early on the final day trail ride to take out the Women‰Ûªs Team Trophy.
