Contingent of factory pro’s poised for Yamaha Stadium Motocross

Posted:

Motorex KTM young-gun Tye Simmonds, Team Shift Motul Suzuki pilot Matt Moss and Woodstock Bourbon Honda rider Daniel McCoy will be styling it up for thousands of spectators at the second round of the Yamaha Stadium Motocross Series next weekend. The 'Under Lights Event', which is expected to attract as many as 340 riders and close to 3000 spectators, is being held at Orange next Saturday evening. Moss dominated both pro categories at the first round of the series at Queanbeyan on January 12 and said he is hoping to do the same at Orange. McCoy landed third in both Pro Lites and Pro Open. Another rider who showed impressive form at the first round and is also racing the second is DRD Belray AXO rider Kym Wright, who pilots a Yamaha machine. Wright finished second in Pro Open. Spectators and racers alike will have another fast up-and-comer to watch and learn from at Orange, with Australian Junior Motocross 125cc 15 years titleholder Simmonds set to make his 2008 Yamaha Stadium Motocross debut. The 15-year-old from Bourke in Outback New South Wales said he would be using the event as warm-up for his first competition in the senior ranks - a supercross in Auckland next month. "In New Zealand you are allowed to race senior when you are 15, I don't turn 16 until May 3 so I can't race senior here in Australia," Simmonds said. "I can't wait [for New Zealand], I am really looking forward to it‰Û_ there will be lots of spectators and it will be at night, just like the stadium motocross. "I really like racing at night, it's fun. And [Phil Sargent's] races have been getting better and better every one I've gone to, so I'm looking forward to [Orange]." Yamaha Stadium Motocross events boast classes for every level of rider, from Nippers - four to eight-year-olds on 50cc bikes - to Clubman, Women's All Powers, Pro Lites and Pro Open. The Yamaha Australian Institute of Motocross will also be running a school for all those junior riders who want to get an edge on their opponents or just learn the basics on the Friday before the event. The final round of the Yamaha Stadium Motocross Series will be held at Maitland on March 8.
