THOR MX1 Round OVERVIEW

Luke Clout was the man with the holeshot as the gate dropped on moto 1 with Brett Metcalfe, Todd Waters, and round one winner Regan Duffy all up front, Metcalfe quickly took the lead though while Waters dropped back with Gibbs moving into third quickly. Clout soon was back into first as the duo went toe to toe. Aaron Tanti, Duffy, Mellross made up the top six.

Gibbs was finding form as he then started to put pressure on Metcalfe for second as Clout stretched his lead to four-seconds as the team-mates held each other up. Matt Moss went out after a huge crash.

With twenty minutes still to go it was a war from 2nd to 6th with Gibbs, Waters, Metcalfe, Mellross and Duffy all within a bike length. While Clout was settling in and stretching his lead. Waters had consolidated in second ahead of Duffy and Mellross while Metcalfe and Gibbs had dropped back to fifth and sixth.

The final ten minutes settled in with the top three of Clout, Waters and Duffy remaining unchanged at the drop of the flag. Mellross held off Gibbs for fourth while fastest qualifier Max Purvis rebounded from a bad start to run sixth only to have a drama on the last lap and cross the line 22nd. Metcalfe finished 6th.

The first of the two back to back ten minute MX1 races saw Clout and Duffy once again at the front with Waters Jayden Rykers, Mellross, Matt Moss, Metcalfe and Gibbs all filling in the top positions.

This time around Clout was not able to run away and hide as Duffy was within a bike length with eight minutes still to go. Mellross and Waters where in a strong battle for third with them both avoiding a major disaster with a high speed elbow rub at one stage, the result was Mellross taking over the third place.

The remaining ten minutes proved intense as Duffy tried a variety of lines to try and get by Clout for the lead but in the end of was to no avail as Duffy dropped a few seconds in the dying stages. In the end Duffy accepted second ahead of Mellross, Waters Metcalfe and Gibbs.

Following a ten minute break it was back to action as the MX1 class set out on the second leg of the twin ten minute races. This time it was Gibbs who scored the holeshot ahead of Tanti, Duffy and Clout. Duffy's great start went south as he was dropped back to fifth but a Mellross mistake allowed him the spot back.

With five minutes to go it was still Gibbs and Clout within a wheel length for the lead with Clout looking as though he was playing it a little safe knowing he had the overall win with second place. Duffy was six-seconds back in third with Mellross in fourth and Waters fifth. With a few minutes to go Clout made the pass for the lead and looked comfortable for a lap or so but Gibbs was not done and with two minutes to go threw it under Clout and punting him off the track. Clout re-joined the track six-seconds down but still ahead of Mellross in third.

When the flag dropped on the last race of the day it was Gibbs, Clout and Mellross.

The overall for the day went to Clout ahead Mellross and Duffy.

PIRELLI MX2
Clout, Webster and Fox dominate at ProMX round two
Kyle Webster took another pair of wins to make it four wins from four starts in 2021. Photo: Aaryn Minerds.
PIRELLI MX2 Round OVERVIEW

Moto 1 of the MX2 class saw Round one winner Kyle Webster get the perfect start and take a strong holeshot and by the end of the first lap already hold a four second lead. Noah Ferguson was the best of the rest running in second ahead of Rhys Budd, Jay Wilson and Isaac Ferguson.

Noah Ferguson and Budd battled hard in the early laps as Webster slowly extended his lead. Jay Wilson and Alex Larwood battled just as hard for 4th and 5th until the turned it into a four way battle with Wilson and Budd. Dylan Wills held down 6th, 18 seconds back from the main battle.

Ten minutes in Wilson made the move to second as Larwood made a mistake in a rut that unintentionally took down Budd with both spending a fair amount of time untangling bikes, Larwood dropped too 27th while Budd got going in 12th. By this stage Webster was now out to a ten-second lead.

By the chequered flag it was all Webster who kept his unbeaten streak alive with a commanding fourteen-second win over Jay Wilson and an impressive Noah Ferguson in third. Budd clawed his way back to 5th while Larwood got back to 14th. Jesse Dobson, who was riding with a recently plated collar bone put in a brave effort for 8th. Round one podium winner Nathan Crawford had a mechanical DNF in the first lap after having problems with his bike before the gate dropped.

Moto 2 saw Noah Ferguson grab the holeshot from Budd and and Nathan Crawford with Webster in fourth but it only took half a lap to make his way into the lead. As the dust settled on lap one it was Webster, Noah Ferguson, Crawford, Roberts, Wilson, Budd and Larwood.

Unlike moto 1 Webster was not having it his own way as Noah Ferguson was dropping fastest lap times to keep him in close attendance. The tiniest of mistakes though from Ferguson allowed Webster to get the slight break he needed to stretch his lead to a few seconds. Meanwhile Wilson, Budd and Larwood where paying close attention to each other in the battle for third.

Positions remained the same with ten minutes to go but it was bad news for Alex Larwood as he withdrew with a shoulder injury and Jesse Dobson assumed his place in sixth. Crawford who had been working on Ferguson for second made the move stick with eight minutes to go but by now Webster was almost six-second up the track.

In the end Webster was once again two strong to make it back to back wins and keep his perfect season going. Crawford crossed the line second ahead of Noah Ferguson, Budd, Dobson and Wilson

In the days overall it was Webster first with maximum points for the day ahead of Ferguson and Wilson in third.

MAXXIS MX3 Round OVERVIEW

Rory Fairbother took the holeshot in the opening MX3 moto ahead of Blake Fox and Hunter Collins while round one winner Ryder Kingsford was back down in 8th.

Fox took the lead after Fairbother got swirly with Collins following him through to second. Kingsfor had an average start in eight but soon worked his way up to Collins and Ben Novak who were in a heated battle for second. Kingsford made another mistake which allowed Thynan Kean through for fourth while early leader Fairbrother dropped down to eighth.

Fifth five minutes left Fox was in control with a 12 second lead with Novak and Kean in second and third. Showing the fighting spirit though was Kingsford who was dropping fasted laps to make up for his lacklustre start and had moved up as high as fourth. By the last lap Kingsford was on a mission to claim second after passing Kean and set his sights on Novak with the duo a wheel apart until Kingsford had a huge crash on the landing of a jump dropping him back to fifth. In the end it was an easy win for Fox ahead of Novak and Keen.

Moto 2 of the MX3 class Ryder Kingsford getting a better start with a holeshot with Ben Novak and Connor Towill in close attendance. Towill soon assumed the lead while race one winner Blake Fox had a small crash dropping him to mid pack. Jack Mather was also in thick of it running third. Fox was soon on the charge and by 4th lap was back up to 4th ahead of Novak and round one revelation Kayden Minear.

With 12 minutes still to go Kingsford took over the lead with Fox moving into second, Fox then quickly pounced on the Queenslander and took the lead. From there the remainder of the race settled with not much in the way of changes to positions Novak moved past Towill in the last few minutes to claim third behind Fox and Kingsford.

In the overall it was Blake Fox with a pair of wins who claimed maximum points for the round ahead of Ben Novak and Ryder Kingsford.
