THOR MX1 Round OVERVIEW

It was Honda Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs who launched out the gate to cross the white hole shot stripe first; however, both Luke Clout and Matt Moss both exited the opening turn ahead of Gibbs.

Clout, who earlier topped both qualifying and the top ten shootout, assumed the lead and quickly put his head down and started to ride away from the field, while Gibbs spent the opening few laps setting up a pass on Moss.

Behind the opening three, a star-studded lineup of riders battled with the likes of Aaron Tanti, Brett Metcalfe, Todd Waters, Hayden Mellross all moved up to the rear wheel of Moss, while championship leader Regan Duffy also joined the front runners after starting outside the top ten.

Tanti, in a great return to form, moved his way into third place and held firm until late in the race where both Waters and Duffy made their around to take hold of 3rd and 4th position; shortly after, both Mellross and Metcalfe also made their way past Tanti.

Heading into the final two laps, Clout had grown his lead to over 10 seconds. Behind him, a battle for second position shaped up between Gibbs and a fast-finishing Waters.

When the flag flew at race end, Clout finished with a comfortable win ahead of Gibbs, who managed to hold off Waters on the final lap while Duffy maintained his points lead with a fourth-place finish.

Mellross came home in 5th, just ahead of Metcalfe with WBR Yamaha’s Max Purvis in 7th. Tanti held on to finish 8th, with the Moss Brothers of Matt and Jake rounding out the top ten.

In the opening back-to-back, moto’s in the MX1 class; it was moto one winner Clout who grabbed the holeshot and quickly set about checking out from the field.

Tanti held down second from Gibbs, with championship leader Duffy in 4th.

For the opening ten minutes, all riders held positions, with the only move coming when Duffy made a mistake while trying to make a move on Gibbs, losing the front end, allowing Metcalfe to move by for 4th. However, it was not long until Duffy moved back around the South Australian to re-claim 4th spot.

Out front, no one could challenge Clout as he made it two from two for the day, winning ahead of Tanti and Gibbs. Duffy held on for 4th ahead of Waters after he was able to make a late-race pass on Metcalfe.

In the second back-to-back moto and the final moto of the day, Gibbs controlled the first turn to exit in first position ahead of Clout and Tanti, with Waters, Mellross, and Purvis close in tow, while Duffy was buried outside the top ten.

Max Purvis continued to impress, moving into 4th spot ahead of Waters, with Mellross then taking advantage as Waters re-grouped from the Purvis pass, also moving by the current #1 plate holder for 5th.

At race end, it was Gibbs who held on for the win ahead of Clout. Clouts’ second position gave him maximum points in the back-to-back races and, along with his moto one win, gave him maximum points for the day with a perfect 50 point haul.

Tanti crossed the line just ahead of Purvis and Mellross, with the top five riders separated by just 4 seconds.

Gibb’s final moto win was enough to elevate him to second overall for the round, while Waters kept himself in championship contention holding down third position for the round with consisent results.

Clout’s round win also moved him into the championship lead, by 3 points over Duffy, with Waters just 3 points further back in 3rd position. Gibbs’s second place today holds him in 4th spot two points behind Waters, with Mellross holding down 5th.

PIRELLI MX2

Kyle Webster

PIRELLI MX2 Round OVERVIEW

After topping Qualifying, Castrol Honda’s Kyle Webster kept his 100% winning streak alive in the opening Pirelli MX2 moto. After running wide through the first turn, Webster quickly recovered and worked his way past Jay Wilson early in the race and was never headed on his way to his fifth straight moto win of the year.

Wilson looked like he had second place wrapped up until a crash on the last lap allowed both his team-mate, Rhys Budd and also Jesse Dobson to move up, with Budd finishing the race in second ahead of Dobson in third.

Wilson recovered to finish 4th, with Dylan Wills rounding out the top five some 37 seconds behind the race winner.

Noah Ferguson and Issac Ferguson finished 6th and 7th aboard their GasGas MC250F machines.

It was another tough outing for Nathan Crawford, who was forced out early in the moto to what looked to be a mechanical issue.

After a mechanical DNF in the opening moto, Crawford turned the tables in moto 2, grabbing the holeshot ahead of Wilson and Dobson. Wilson quickly moved into the lead, with race one winner Webster moving into second spot.

Webster then got shuffled back to 4th before a mistake seen the current points leader slipping outside of the top 15.

Out front, Crawford moved on to the rear wheel of Wilson before making a move for the lead and starting to slowly build a small lead, while Dobson went to work on Wilson for second.

Budd held down 4th ahead of Wills in 5th.

Webster did not take long to work his way back through the field and, with 13 minutes plus one lap to go, had moved back into 6th position.

With 10 minutes remaining in the moto, Dobson moved around Wilson, putting him in a position to take the overall round win.

With 6 minutes on the clock, Wills put a move on Budd for 4th, and Webster closed in on the duo, and then himself moved ahead of Budd, with Will and Webster then both reeling in Wilson in third with just over 3 minutes remaining.

Webster, on the second to last lap, worked his way by Wills with Wilson just ahead of the duo. The move also put Webster back in position to take the overall round win for the day.

At the end of the race is was a Serco Yamaha 1-2, with Crawford taking the win ahead of Dobson, with Wilson making it a moto podium clean sweep in third.

Webster came home in 4th, which was enough to give him his third straight round win by a single point ahead of Dobson and Wilson in third.

Wills put in a fantastic ride to finish in 5th ahead of Budd in 6th, with Ferguson, Constantinou, Cosford and Mcmahon rounding out the top ten for the moto.

Websters’ round win moved him to a 34 point championship lead over Dobson, with Budd holding down third just three points further back. Wilson holds down 4th while Crawford, despite two DNF’s so far this season, sits in 5th spot.

MAXXIS MX3

Blake Fox

MAXXIS MX3 Round OVERVIEW

Connor Towill lead the MX3 class through the first turn in their opening race of the day ahead of Ryder Kingsford. Still, it was Blake Fox who quickly took control of the race, moving past both riders on the opening up before going on to win comfortably by 21 seconds.

Behind him, Kingsford and Towill battle for second position, a small mistake by Kingsford allowed Towill to open up a handy gap which he held onto until the finish to claim second position, with Kingsford crossing the line six seconds further back in third.

Western Australian wonder kid, Kayden Minar who only recently turned 14 years of age, moved from 5th position to 4th on the final lap to put in his best result of the year, with Cambell Williams holding on for 5th.

Much like the opening MX3 moto, it was Towill and Fox who launched out to the lead heading out of turn one, while a large portion of the field was caught up in a pile-up on the inside of the first turn.

Fox quickly took the lead and once again checked out from the field, racing away to a massive 23-second win on his way to domination overall round win and, in the process extending his championship lead.

The second moto did not pan out for Towill, who suffered a crash early in the race, eventually finishing outside the top 30.

Kingsford backed up his 3rd place result in the opening moto with an impressive second-place finish in moto 2, riding the entire race on his own to secure second overall for the round.

The battle for third place was a tight race-long affair, with a handful of riders battling for the final spot on the podium. In the end, it was Cooper Holroyd who powered his Yamaha to third for the moto, which was enough to secure the final podium spot for the round.

William put in another strong effort in the second moto to finish in the third spot ahead of Ryan Alexanderson.

Minear put a bad start behind him to finish 7th, which was enough to see him hold down third overall in the championship standings behind points leader Fox and second-placed Kingsford.
