Career Best Superbike Finish For Jones in Sydney Heat

Posted:

Queensland‰Ûªs Mike Jones has achieved his best ever results since stepping up to Australia‰Ûªs elite road racing class, Superbike, at the conclusion of the 2014 season after securing two race wins over the course of the final round of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park, helping him to secure third overall in the AFX-SBK Series in his debut season.

Friday afternoon‰Ûªs extreme heat saw Mike qualify sixth with a 1:32.264, however slightly cooler conditions on Saturday handed Jones a second and first place finish outright rising him to third for the day and third for the series, placing him on the outright podium for his first season in the 1000cc category.

Jones‰Ûª results also helped to secure a front row start for Sunday‰Ûªs three Swann Series races.

Extreme heat returned for the final three events of the Championship, with air track temperatures rising above 40 degrees and track temperatures up to 70 degrees, delivering a true test of personal physical and mental preparation throughout the day.

On the back of Saturday‰Ûªs successes, Mike secured fourth in the opening race before taking victory in race two, his first win in the Swann Series for the season. The result was then backed up with sixth in race three handing him fourth for the round and ninth for the respective Sunday Championship.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm absolutely ecstatic with my performance this weekend." Jones said. "This is the ultimate category, with all of the best Australian Superbike riders, and I‰Ûªm overwhelmed to get my maiden Superbike race win.

"I gave it my all and don‰Ûªt think I could have ridden any harder. The Crazy Dogs Kawasaki Ninja ZX10 is such a good bike and Sydney Motorsport Park is Kawasaki territory, so I‰Ûªm glad to be on a Kawasaki.‰Û
