Bopping and Moss make the most of Maitland

Posted:

Clear conditions once again provided some great racing for fans at the only day race of the 2011 Monster Energy Super X series held at Maitland Oval.

On a day that saw Raceline Pirelli Suzuki‰Ûªs Lawson Bopping claim his first ever Open class victory and Lites championship leader, JDR Motroex KTM‰Ûªs Matt Moss, extend his hold on the championship at the penultimate round win.

JDR Motorex KTM‰Ûªs Tye Simmonds won the first holeshot of the Open class Triple challenge final where riders faced three, ten lap races. Hart and Huntington / Insure My Ride‰Ûªs Chris Blose and Bopping overtook Simmonds mid way through the race to push him back to third, whilst they battled it out for the top two places with Blose the eventual victor.

Jay Marmont took the second holeshot and checked out in the second final for the win ahead of Bopping and Carlton Dry Thor Honda‰Ûªs Todd Waters in third.

Bopping claimed the final holeshot of the night ahead of Jay Marmont in second and Chris Blose third. Marmont gained on Bopping each lap and eventually made the pass to take the win. Bopping held on for second and Blose was third.

Bopping won the overall and his first Open class victory leaving Marmont in second and Blose third on a count back after tying with Waters. The second place was enough for Marmont to take the overall lead of the championship for the first time this year.

‰ÛÏGetting this win is awesome and so good for the whole team. The track was hard and slippery by the end of the race so it was tough racing out there,‰Û

Steven Clarke took the first holeshot in the first of three eight lap final races in the Lites, but was quickly overtaken by America‰Ûªs Carlton Dry Thor Honda‰Ûªs Gavin Faith who lead the whole race to take the win with Matt Moss second and Kim Ashkenazi third.

Monster Energy Kawasaki‰Ûªs Dean Ferris won the second holeshot of the night and checked out for a dominant win with Moss finishing in second again and the UK‰Ûªs Steven Clarke third.

The final Lites race of the night was filled with drama with Faith and Brendan Harrison both crashing in the first lap of the third final. Shortly after Steven Clarke got caught on a tough block whilst in the lead and went flying through the air to crash out of the race with a suspected broken wrist. This allowed Moss to take the lead and win with GYTR Rockstar Yamaha‰Ûªs Luke Arbon second and Ferris third.

Moss won the overall with Ferris second and Arbon third.

‰ÛÏLast weekend was a bit disappointing for me, but I have been doing a lot of training this week and was feeling awesome after working with my dad. I wanted to get some good starts and was able to do that and get the win. I want to thank my team JDR Motorsports and my injured brother Jake for coming out and supporting me here today,‰Û
