Booth Elliot and Norris Come Out On Top In Ceduna

SGR Performance Moto, Suzuki rider James Booth Elliot and Performance Moto, Sardow Industries supported Yamaha rider Mitch Norris have raced to victory in their respective expert classes at the second round of the 2015 Peter Stevens South Australia Motocross Championship held on Sunday the 14th of June.

Hosted by the West Coast Motorcycle Club in Ceduna riders were treated to a sensationally prepared sand based track as the series returned to the Eyre Peninsula coast town for the first time since 2012.

In the MX1 expert class the day was won by James Booth Elliot on the back of a pair of opening race wins before taking second position in the final moto to Davey Motorsports, TuneTech Racing KTM‰Ûªs Daniel Banks.

Banks win in the final moto combined with a pair of second place finishes was enough to see him hold down second position for the round.

Rounding out the podium was a luckless Izak Maule. The Yaim, Yamaha backed rider was in a great position in the second moto two take the race win, leading the field through the first half of the race before a flat front tyre forced him to salvage as many points as possible.

After two rounds of racing Booth-Elliot leads the standings by 14 points over Banks with Maule a further seven points adrift in third.

The MX2 experts class provided some of the most spectacular and exciting racing of the day, with Yamaha mounted Mitch Norris coming out on top due to his final race win, after finishing the day tied on points with Booth-Elliot.

Siegah Ward kicked off the action with a brilliant ride through the field in the opening race to overhaul Norris in the final stages of the first race to grab the win.

Booth Elliot like Ward worked his way into the lead in the second race to head home Peter Stevens backed Ty Lynch in second spot.

As the final race of the day got underway, heavy fog rolled in, causing visibility issues for the riders with the race eventually being shortened. Norris proved to be the best in the difficult conditions taking the race win ahead of Booth-Elliot to claim the round win, while MPE Suspension, Coast KTM‰Ûªs Ward rounded out the race in third to claim the final step on the podium.

In the MX1 Intermediate and Clubman classes it was Flinders Motorcycles Scott Watts who increased his championship lead in the Intermediate class with a 14 point round win ahead of DFC Buildings Dylan Clarke, while Tylor Thompson recovered from a big first turn crash early in the day to finish one point behind Clarke for the round.

In the Clubman class Wayne Burge closed the gap to James Alskne by four points in the championship race with the round win ahead of Alskne, with Jake Brown rounding out the podium.

In the MX2 Intermediate class Pro Moto Garage backed Sam Parsons maintained his narrow points lead on Corey Crawford as the duo shared race wins in the opening two races of the day.

The MX2 class along with the VetsB and MX2 Clubman class all had their day cut short due to the heavy fog that rolled in at 3pm with the smart decision being made to call racing off due to the lack of visibility.

In the shortened MX2 Clubman class, it was Nathan Laubsch who continued his good form winning both races for the day to win ahead of local rider Harley Willis with Adrian Cottrell finishing in third.

Laubsch now holds a 19 point lead over Willis in the championship standings.

In the Vets A class, Kim Ashkenazi dropped the opening race of the day to a fast charging Warren Carroll before rebounding to take the final two race wins for the round and extending his points lead over Carroll.

Daniel Phillips rounded out the podium to maintain his third place position in the standings.

The Vets B class was once again the biggest field for the round with Jason Milnes taking the round win ahead of Anthony Slade after the duo each scored a race win for the day. Keith Ashby on his return to racing in 2015 finished the day in third position.

With his second place finish for the round, Slade has taken over the points lead in the vets B class ahead of Troy Craddock with a handy 29 point lead.

Zoe Harkness took a comfortable win in the Women‰Ûªs class, batteling hard against the Vets A grade riders all day and now has a commanding lead in the championships.
