Block Buster Double Header For Western Australia’s Best Riders This Weekend

Posted:

The blockbuster Easter double header motocross event of the year steams into the historic gold mining town of Kalgoorlie this Saturday and Sunday, as the Smarter Than Smoking WAMX State Championship Series heads 500 kilometres east from Perth.

The opening round of the WAMX Junior State Championship will herald the start of WA's upcoming young riders, with all out to prove their off season training has paid off.

Seniors will commence the second round on Sunday, and with a week's break for the MX Nationals contenders, who, incidentally hold the championship points and winning form heading into this second round.

Carrying form and plenty of experience into this round is current series leader Kyle Webster in the Pro Open/MX2 class. Defending champion Louis Calvin has tasted plenty of success at Kalgoorlie, and believes he can put some serious motos together.

Stevie Heilers, Paul Humberston and Daniel Woodward are the contenders currently sitting inside the top five of the championship.

In the Pro Lite/MX/2 class, defending champ Josh Adams had a shocker at Appin last Sunday, yet will put that behind him heading into the WAMX second round.

Jayden Rykers carries the red plate as series leader into Round 2, with only a handful of points splitting the top five. Rykers had a steady round at Appin, finishing 14th in the Under 19's. He took the opening round of the WAMX at Coastal Park two weeks ago, yet will need to be on his game with Kyle Webster on fire at Appin in the Under 19s, and racing the Pro Open and Pro Lites double this season.

Local track knowledge will suit David Birch who sits in third place on the leader's board with Paul Humberston and the aforementioned Kyle Webster rounding out the top five.

In the Women's Class, series leader Court Hirst had a standout round at the Women's Australian MX Championship at last weekends at Horsham in Victoria finishing fifth overall. Shelley Connor, is currently sitting in second place, with Chelsea Blakers holding down third in the Championship standings.

In the Veterans Championship Class it was a tough battle between last year's Pro Vet Champion Scott Petricevich, Paul Smithson and hard charging Kenny Smith. Can the Vets sustain this pace, with some of the district's riders entering this event.

The Quad Championships has been dominated by Chris Bosnakis so far, yet with some of the local Kalgoorlie riders competing, Bosnakis will need to be on his toes, in recent years the Goldfields Motorcycle Club has shaken the young man, and he will be out to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Shaun Woodhead currently in second and Luke Ovens in third place whilst in the Clubmans Quads Jemma Meerylees has a strong lead from Jeff Hogan and Jonathon Mosby.

Round 2 of the WAMX series, heads 600 kilometres east, to the historic goldfields town of Kalgoorlie. The Goldfields Motorcycle Club celebrates its 100th year, and this hard packed track is free-flowing and very fast, and favoured by many riders.

The Easter long weekend is a bumper double header with Juniors on Saturday and Seniors on Sunday. For more details www.wamx.com.au
