Billy Mackenzie on track for positive return to World GP Racing

Posted:

Monster Energy Kawasaki's Billy Mackenzie is on track for a positive return to World MX1 racing after finishing the 7th round of the British MX Championship on the podium at Duns, Scotland last weekend.

Shortly after taking 3rd overall in the Rockstar Energy Drink MX NAtionals, Mackenzie jetted back home to Scotland to compete in selected races before he returns to Australia for the opening round of the 2011 Monster Energy SuperX Championship.

Riding with the LPE Kawasaki Team, Mackenzie was dealt some bad luck at Duns, having to ride through the pack in each race in order to finish on the podium. Mackenzie finished the 3 motos in 2-3-3 to take 3rd overall for the round.

Billy Mackenzie said from Scotland, "It was a pretty average day for me to tell the truth. I got out to a good start in the first moto and was 2nd into the corner. I made my way to the lead and was riding smooth and easy but I got a bit tight with 2 laps to go and stalled it in a corner. In the second moto I hit neutral over the gate and was dead last. I rode well though to come through to 3rd, I was right behind them at the finish and that was probably the best I rode all day. I was the fastest guy on the track."

"Then I got an average start in the third moto and some guy crashed in front of me on the second corner. Three of us piled up and it took me a while to get going. I came through well again though and found 3rd. I had the fastest lap time in that race so overall I'm pretty disappointed not to have gotten better results but it's been a nice warm up for the GP next weekend."

Billy Mackenzie will look to add to the silverware he has achieved from multiple GP wins and podiums when he lines up in the MX1 class at the British GP at Matterley Basin this weekend.
