Bilko reports in from Crusty Demons Outback Assault tour

Posted:

Honda's freestyle man of the moment, Blake ‰Û÷Bilko' Williams has just returned from Alice Springs after the second stop of the Crusty Demon's Outback Assault Tour, and according to the man himself it has "been quite an adventure so far!" "The first stop in Darwin was a huge success. We had big turn outs, and even the in-store signings were an early indication that it was going to be one to remember," said the 20 year old star. "Come Saturday night, about 11,000 people turned up to witness the action. Unfortunately Robbie Maddison crashed in practice and was unable to ride but the show still went fairly smoothly. It was the first time I have flipped 75 feet from ramp to ramp. I also pulled off all of my regular combo's including a nac nac to heelclicker flip, plus the synchro and train series. The show finished again with the insane flip train and the crowd were blown away." The tour has been full of surprises so far including thieves breaking into the boys' hotel rooms in Darwin where the culprits made off with some of the rider's belongings. The crew have all been pulling together, however, piling into their vans and heading down the highway for the next show. "This was the first time people in the Northern Territory have had the chance to see freestyle of this kind or meet the riders, so we stopped at most major towns between Darwin and Whyalla to do some in-store signings and giveaways along the way," Bilko explained. In scorching hot weather, the riders then geared up for their second show in Alice Springs. "We had a warm up session in the morning and it wasn't looking too good when the heavens opened up at lunch time. The rain came bucketing down, and because the course has rubber run ups, steel ramps and wooden down ramps, we didn't think the show would go ahead. Fortunately the rain stopped and the show ended up being fantastic with over 5,000 spectators." "The program is a bit all over the place for me actually," Bilko commented. "I jump my CRF250 in the opening train, then I get on my CRF50, do three tricks, flip it, and then get straight back on to my 250 for four jumps and a flip. It's a bit weird hopping straight off one bike to the other." "Its been so good though. Schuie and I busted out synchro heel clicker flips that have never been done before in Australia, so that was pretty cool!" Bilko is now at home to concentrate on finishing up his supercross track and putting in some concrete run ups for freestyle jump practice. The Victorian based rider will fly back to Whyalla on Thursday for an in-store signing and the third show of the tour on Saturday night.
