Among the 350 riders competing over the two day event will be a host of factory, manufacturer supported riders using the weekend event as a chance to fine-tune their bikes and race craft for the national motocross championship currently on a four week break.

"Four weeks is a long time between races," states Chad Reed Racing / Monster Kawasaki's Luke George from NSW.

"So, I thought I would use the time to get some more seat time and head up to Queensland for the event. I can then link up with an event at Port Macquire the following week and I can get some flow into my racing," he concluded.

Yamaha Australia will also have several riders attending the event. The Brisbane based Serco Yamaha team of Ford Dale and Kirk Gibbs will be in attendance, as will up and coming Yamaha stars Harley Quinlan and Shaun Redhead.

All four riders are also in the middle of competing in the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals and hope the extra weekend of racing will help them in the coming weeks.

"Some guys like to take weekends off, but I feel much better when I am on the bike more often and riding," says the Sunshine Coast's Ford Dale.

"Racing is the best practice, so with the event a home town race for Serco and only one hour from my house, why not get out there and have a go."

The Shell Advance Sunshine State Motocross Series is Australia's longest running and most popular motocross series.

With an average of over 400 riders attending the six round series and now in its 15th year, the series offers something for all riders of almost any age or skill level.

"The series is designed to foster young and up and coming talent in South East Queensland," states Series Co-ordinator, Katherine Rumble.

"We have riders as young as six riding 65cc machines all the way through to the top level professional rider on powerful 450cc bikes."

"During its history riders such as Michael Byrne, Andrew MacFarlane and Chad Reed have gone onto international success, while Queensland has produced its fair share of domestic champions, all of which can be attributed to the success of this series over a long period time," Rumble concludes.

Racing is at starts at Tivoli Raceway this Saturday and Sunday at 9am. The circuit is located on Coal Road, Chuwar.
