Bad Luck Hampers KRT at Launceston SuperX

Posted:

Kawasaki Racing Team riders Cody Mackie and Luke Arbon had the odds stacked against them at the third round of the 2010 Monster Energy SuperX at Launceston, Tasmania on Saturday 30 October.

After finishing their heat race inside the top 5 in the Lites class, a run of bad luck and crashes prevented both riders from finishing on the podium. Both riders still managed top 10 finishes with Cody Mackie taking 8th place and Luke Arbon finishing in 10th for the round.

The night started well for Mackie and Arbon with both riders progressing easily through to the double-header finals thanks to some impressive riding in the first heat race. Mackie finished in 3rd place with Arbon right behind him in 4th place.

The wet and slippery track conditions at Launceston didn't make life easy for the KRT duo in the finals. Mackie rode well in the first final to take 4th place and looked on track to get his first SuperX podium for 2010 however a big crash in the second race was too hard to come back from. Mackie salvaged a 15th place finish for the race to take 8th for the round and 5th overall in the Championship.

Arbon's weekend didn't go totally to plan, but it wasn't for lack of trying. A first turn crash in the first final put the young South Australian at the back of the pack. He was able to claw his way back well inside the top 10 thanks to some very quick riding, however contact later in the race with a near stationery rider put him on the dirt again and he was unable to regain a good position before the chequered flag came out. Arbon rocketed out of the gates in the second final and found himself inside the top 3 after the first few turns. Showing great speed, things were looking good for Arbon, however another crash put him back to last. From there he rode well to salvage a 9th place finish to take 10th overall for the round.

Knowing that he's capable of better results, an unhappy Arbon said, "Things just didn't come together tonight. I finally got a decent start in the second race but I threw it away. I've got to not crash so I can finish on the podium and get some decent points. I'm looking forward to turning my luck around in NZ."

KRT Manager Troy Carroll added, "A series of unfortunate crashes brought both riders undone tonight. You can't always change bad luck but we're certainly working on it. I'm confident that both Luke and Cody can turn it around and find themselves on the podium shortly."

KRT riders Cody Mackie and Luke Arbon will be hitting the practise track before flying over to New Zealand next week for the 4th round of the 2010 Monster Energy SuperX Championship at Auckland on Saturday 13 November.
