Some of Australia’s best young motorcycle talent will gather on the New South Wales Central Coast this weekend, October 3 and 4, for the 2026 MSC MOTO Australian Junior Track Championships.
The Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club will host the championship at its Allen Park complex in Somersby, just under two years after staging the event’s previous showdown. The meeting has a strong history of showcasing riders who go on to make their mark in the senior ranks.
Over the past 25 years, championship meetings have featured world champions Casey Stoner, Remy Gardner, Darcy Ward and Chris Holder, along with current world road racing competitors Jack Miller, Senna Agius and Joel Kelso. Speedway stars Brady Kurtz, Rohan Tungate and Sam Masters have also competed at the event.
More recently, Australian Superbike frontrunner Cameron Dunker, inaugural FIM Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup champion Archie McDonald and dual American Flat Track champion Tom Drane have all come through the dirt track ranks.
So, who should fans watch this weekend? Plenty of the competitors already have impressive records, and their skill and composure on track can make it easy to forget just how young they are.
The entry list features more than 120 riders, travelling from as far north as Townsville and as far south as Albury-Wodonga. Most will have raced at Allen Park before, including Ryder Smith, son of former speedway champion Kozza Smith. Ryder made the trip from Townsville for the Central Coast Cup in June to gain experience at the venue.
The two girls’ classes, along with the 85cc 2-stroke and 150cc 4-stroke class for riders aged 12 to under 16, will be decided on points across five rounds. That format means every placing could prove important to the final championship standings.
The remaining classes will run four rounds of heats, followed by a repechage and a final, with the final deciding the championship.
The older age groups are likely to attract plenty of attention. Albury rider Jed Fyffe, currently leading the Flat Track Nationals series, will be aiming to improve on his 2025 result of a win and a second place.
Hugh Hope-Hodgetts and Hayden Duggan from Forbes, Tommy Wright from Albury-Wodonga and Nate Jaeger from Gunnedah all bring strong credentials. Queenslanders Kai Moran and Ryke Haller will also be ones to watch, while host club hopes rest with Levi Meyn, who won the Central Coast Junior Cup in June.
There will be plenty of new champions crowned this year, but it will also be worth following the progress of 2025 champions Hugo Holmes and Cooper Quinn, who have both moved into an older age bracket.
Practice begins at 9 am on Saturday, followed by racing. On Sunday, a parade lap and the national anthem are scheduled for 9.30 am before on-track action resumes.
The Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club track is at Allen Park, Debenham Road North, Somersby, near Gosford. Spectator entry this weekend is $10 per vehicle.
