The Australian Supercross Championship (ASX) will make it’s long awaited, post Covid-19 return, with the new-look series slated to return this October.
A major revelation for the championship in 2022, is a significant calendar shift, with five events spanning November to January 2023, touring four regions of Australia.
The Championship will be led by the General Manager of Events & Commercial at AME Group, Ben Williams. Ben’s experience spans over 25 years in the motocross and supercross industry, including heavy involvement in operations of the AUS-X Open event since its inception in 2015.
“We are excited to roll out a new direction for Australian Supercross after taking an opportunity to reset,” said Williams.
“The Australian Supercross Championship is one of the most credible, respected, and hard fought on the planet. It’s important we re-establish the series post-Covid and give our riders the platform to catapult more Australian stars into the global spotlight.”
“Off the track, we believe the series has an important role to play in its connection with grassroots participation getting more riders on dirt bikes, as well as establishing a stronger engagement with our younger fan base.”
Key to the re-launch strategy is a shift towards a ‘summer’ series for the Championship. Williams saying new audiences and event attendance is the key motivator for the move.
Moving into the summer months we hope will give the Championship more clean air in the Australian sporting landscape, as well as attract new spectators more motivated to attend events on warmer nights,” Williams concluded.
