Australian FMX Championship Kicks Off on the Sunshine Coast

Posted:

Fifteen freestyle motocross riders will battle at this weekend‰Ûªs RFDmx-promoted AFMXC qualifier to secure a position at the JetPilot Invitational FMX competition, the opening round of the Australian FMX Championship, that kicks off one week later on the Sunshine Coast, Qld.

Never before has the level been as high, or as much interest shown, by riders eager to stake their claim in the AFMXC series.

Among the solid list of riders trying to qualify for round 1 are 2011 UNIT FMX Open winner Luke McNeil, who is returning to competition after an injury-plagued 2012 season, and one of the country‰Ûªs best OG FMX riders, Pete McCann, who is returning to the sport after a 10-year hiatus.

Another key addition is Kiwi ace and qualifying round host, Callum Shaw. Shaw showed great form earlier in the year with a third place at the New Zealand Farm Jam, and is pumped to compete against Australia‰Ûªs best up-and-comers on his home property at Boonah, Qld.

The top five riders who qualify this weekend will join 10 seeded and five wildcard riders at the JetPilot Invitational.

The Invitational is free for the public to attend and will host the toughest FMX competition seen in years; the likes of Nitro Circus stars Steve Mini and Matt McFerran, and Aussie FMX legend Matt Schubring, will go head-to-head against 2012 series champion Joe Sheppard and in-form riders Joel Brown, Pete Anderson, Pat Bowden, and Matty Lewis.

This years AFMXC series has attracted strong support from major sponsors Red Bull, Unit, JetPilot and Precise, and will help shape the future of Australia‰Ûªs FMX riders.
