Aussie David Johnson to make WSBK debut at Phillip Island

Posted:

"I'm stoked to be able to kick off my 2012 race plans on what should be a very competitive bike at a track where I know we can perform", said the Leicestershire based 28 year-old Australian David Johnson.

"I returned to my home town of Adelaide to escape the English winter and train for the 2012 season but I never expected we would be in a position to front up for Round One of World Superbikes!"

British Championship regular David Johnson is set to kick off the 2012 season in his home country of Australia as a wildcard entry in the opening round of the 2012 Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island.

Johnson will be campaigning a BMW S1000RR for the South Australia based team, Rossair AEP Racing. The bike was raced and developed by the Buildbase BMW squad in the 2011 British Superbike Championship and has recently landed on Australian soil into the hands of Rossair AEP Racing team principal Duncan Gordon. The team has already begun acomprehensive testing program which to date has be proving positive.

David has signed with the Carbontek - 4 Anjels BMW squad for the 2012 British Superstock Championship where he will malso be riding a BMW S1000RR.

"Although my WSBK bike is a more developed machine, I know that I feel very comfortable on the bike and it suits my riding style," Johnson said. "I have raced a few years of British Superbike but never on competitive bikes and have delivered top 10 results so get this opportunity on such a well prepared bike is great and I can't wait to get out there".

"We have put together a great team with great technical know-how and experience ‰ÛÒ we don't want to be there just to make up the numbers. I know how tough the WSBK is but it is our aim to get into the points".

Johnson is no stranger to international racing as 2012 will be his 10th season of racing in Europe. David has raced at the pointy end of many championship series throughout Europe and even made a big impression at the TT Isle of Man where he was Fastest Newcomer for the 2010 race. The Rossair AEP team are excited and ready to take on this great mopportunity.
