With the track being under water the previous week due to the floods it was great to arrive to the Maffra / Sale MX club to see a prestige track ready for a full days racing. The Pro Class proved an upset for the whole day seeing the top riders' dwindling through injury throughout the day. Geoff Taylor rider Adam Siemensma had the holeshot in moto 1 leaving the rest of the field to battle it out for positions. Siemensma pulled away down the straight with Daryl Watson on his trusty Honda in hot pursuit and Anthony Dallios also giving chase. Siemensma took to the whoops like they were little ant hills with Suzuki Rider Paul Smith also preforming his best overtaking 2 riders through the whoops to take 2nd place. On the second lap Siemensma flipped his quad with the machine landing on top of him causing quite a shock amongst the crowd seeing the Pro rider being knocked out for a few seconds. Once on his feet Siemensma had seen a few too many tweetie birds and called it quits leaving the rest of the field to battle it out for 1st place. The Whoops saw a few Pro riders doing the shake, rattle and roll taking its toll on many. Paul Worth managed to stall it giving Watson 2nd place behind Smith followed by Aaron Ovens. Last lap proved a doosey with Smith being flicked off his quad giving 1st place back to Watson followed by Ovens and 3rd to Worth. In the 2nd moto Smith decided to ride however in the 3rd moto his chest injury got the better of him relegating him back to last. Dallios took the holeshot and held the lead for the ride of his life taking his 1st win for the season. Shaun Barry also had the ride of his life taking 2nd and Ovens pulled off 3rd. Worth had gear box trouble, which put him out of contention and Watson managed to kiss his handlebars as he took huge air over the finishing tabletop. Over all it was great to see the consistency of Aaron Ovens to take prime position on the podium in 1st place, Daryl Watson with 2nd and Anthony Dallios bringing in 3rd. All were extremely happy with their racing. Siemensma still a bit shaken commented "The track couldn't be better, it could do with a few bigger jumps but otherwise its great." Exceptionally happy with his quad he was still quite sore and bruised after his spectacular crash. Young rider Cameron Wade from Colac is proving a force to be contended with in the Production Class. Having straight wins for the last 3 rounds it was disappointing for Wade to have a hiccup with his quad and come in 4th in the last moto after having a clear lead. Jason Pope kept the crowd awake getting his quad crossed up through the whoops but managing to stay on. Brendan Gina rode with great consistency to pull off overall 1st for the day leaving Wade with 2nd and Pope with 3rd. New comers Scott McNaught and Darren Schnoor are also proving themselves getting closer and closer to the leaders with each race. Expert Class had the top 3 riders battling it out for podium positions all day. In the 1st moto Jay Chandler took the holeshot leaving Cameron Wade and Amo Mason behind only to get tangled up together on the 2nd corner. After separating their quads both riders had close racing with Wade managing 2nd place just ahead of Mason. Chandler was very happy with the track commenting that he thought it was "wicked" However in the 3rd moto he managed to spin out in the 2nd lap and stall relegating him to last. Not to be outdone, young Chandler did some "wicked" heel clickers over the finishing tabletop, which kept the crowd amused and cheering. Our future champions once again kept the crowd thrilled with their antics. Our youngest rider 4 year old Oliver McNaught had to be pushed up a few hills (mountains to him) but kept the smile on his face amidst all his concentration. New to the class Sam Taylor and Owen Schnoor gave great chase to Leah Gartside who set a fast pace all day. The 90cc class had a few upsets with Harrison Van Vliet throwing a chain in the 2nd moto and Kristopher Sabbatucci having a big get off in the last moto giving him a DNF. Harrison Van Vliet and Ben Wade battled it out with Brad Ross always hot on their heels and not too far behind Alexander Sabbatucci getting some big air off the rhythm section. Overall 1st place ended up going to Van Vliet, 2nd to Wade and 3rd to Ross. In the 90cc Production class Michael Beer once again had loads of fun out on the track with new comer Jack Taylor. Overall the track held up remarkably well and it was a surprise to see the dust trailing behind the quads at the end of the day. Looks like the Victorian Titles in August and the Australian Titles in November will be great racing at a well-prepared and maintained track.
