A legend of motorcycling in Australia will again be honoured this weekend when the Kurri Kurri Junior Motor Cycle Club stages the annual Casey Stoner Cup dirt track meeting at their Loxford Park Raceway, situated in Dickson Road, Loxford, this Easter Saturday, March 30.

The one-day meeting honours the career of someone who achieved the highest honour in the sport winning the Moto GP World Championship after having started in the junior dirt track ranks.

The riders competing on Saturday include many who are in the early stages of their careers, but even among the junior riders there are plenty who appear on a path to higher honours.

The Tradecore Industries Casey Stoner Cup dirt track meeting already has an impressive list of previous winners in both senior and junior divisions and there is certain to be deserved names added to the honour roll of winners for 2024.

In the absence of the Senior Cup winner for the past two years, Harrison Ryan who is now concentrating on speedway, there are two previous placegetters in the Senior Cup will be out to step up on the top step of the victory rostrum this year.

Yamaha-backed teenager Cody Lewis is a previous winner of the Junior Cup and was placed third in the Senior Cup last year and he will be out to back up victory in a meeting at Tamworth earlier this month, while Jacob Richardson who was third two years ago was impressive at the recent Bathurst Long Track Masters meeting.

Riders like Brayden Gay, Cody Wilby and the Cardinale brothers Noah and Talon will keep the pressure on Lewis and Richardson. Motorcycle racing has plenty of family connections and as well as several sets of brothers in both senior and junior classes there will also be a father and son competing – recent Bathurst Over 40s winner Josh McCosker and son Cohen who has already had championship success.

Racing in all the junior classes will take on added significance with the New South Junior Dirt Track Championships to be staged at the same venue a fortnight later.

The opportunity to compete at the track this Saturday in preparation for the title meeting has attracted riders from all over the state as well as a strong contingent from Queensland.

In last year’s Junior Cup Lachlan Russell and Jayden Holder battled it out and they are there again this Saturday when they will face tough opposition from the likes of Queenslanders Cooper Archibald and Jake and Bodie Paige, host club rider Max Earl and Hugh Hope-Hodgetts from Forbes.

The younger age brackets also have many riders who are already making a mark in the sport and the races for those classes on smaller capacity machines invariably provide plenty of close, hard-fought action.

Practice will get underway at 9.00am on Saturday and fans can have a cheap day out with just a $5.00 per car entry fee with full canteen facilities available.
