Angus Reekie Keeps Winning Streak Going With KTM Super Duke

Posted:

Angus Reekie and his brilliant new naked KTM 1290 Super Duke R have kept their exciting winning streak going with victory in the fourth round of the Australian Superbike Championship‰Ûªs Naked Bike division of the 2014 Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship series with a domination of the third round of the series at Winton Raceway in Victoria.

The Queenslander, who earlier won at Wakefield Park, Mallala, Queensland Raceway, maintains an enviable 100% record in the category which runs in conjunction with the fully-faired Pro Twins.

Reekie hoped the short straights and tight turns of Winton would suit the KTM‰Ûªs outstanding corner entry and exit characteristics and he wasn‰Ûªt disappointed, winning all three of Sunday‰Ûªs races.

Reekie also remains on target in his goal to upstage the fully faired bikes for the Pro-Twins Outright Award, which is given at the end of the series.

‰ÛÏWe had done some minor suspension changes in Saturday‰Ûªs races, so Sunday was just as good, and the conditions were a lot better as well." Reekie explained. "We won the first and second races by a good margin.

"Then in the third race it was very late in the day because there were red flags and stoppages, and the sun was low and it was very difficult to see and the track was cooling off a lot. I really wanted to just finish it, so I came in second behind an Aprilia from the Pro Twins.

"I did the fastest lap time quite comfortably sitting in behind him and I probably could have had a go, but the grip was lower so I just decided to play conservative and bring it home.

"We won the naked bike class and the Pro-Twins overall and extended our lead in the naked bike championship which is good, so if we have a good round next time out I should be able to seal it.

"Rain, hail or shine on the bike was on rails the whole weekend. The first rainy qualifying session we were 11 å_seconds quicker than second place - it was just phenomenal. We also had Lukey Luke out there debuting his 1290 Super Duke stunt bike at the same event I was racing so it certainly illustrated just how versatile the motorcycle really is.‰Û
