Alex Cudlin Set To Race Australian Long Track Championships

Posted:

Five-time Qatar Superbike champion Alex Cudlin of Taree has confirmed he will start in the Australian Long Track Championships to be held at the Old Bar Roadside Circuit on August 29/30.

This will be the first time Cudlin has competed in the Australian long track titles in 15 years.

"I was 13 when I competed in my last Dirt bike Aussie Title." Cudlin explained. "I can't even remember how I went it was that long ago.

However, Cudlin will be home in August between events in the world endurance championship and said the opportunity to race in an Australian title is too good to miss.

"It's only five minutes down the road from my home. It‰Ûªs a special place to me, so when I heard it was being held in August I thought, why not."

Cudlin put his bike through its paces during a practice day at Old Bar last Sunday and clocked some fast lap times. He'll enter two events, the Pro open and Pro 450 on his Kawasaki KX450, the blue ribbon races in August.

Cudlin is confident of chances of finishing on the podium, however, he agrees racing at the Old Bar track will be totally different to what he's used to these days.

"On top of that it's a different track, a different bike, different tyres. But I'm looking forward to it. It‰Ûªs been so long since I‰Ûªve raced on the dirt, I really can‰Ûªt wait. It'll be a lot of fun.

"It's a two day event and I guess I'll know what chance I have after the first day.'

Cudlin hopes that Troy Bayliss will have recovered from a broken leg sustained in America last week and will race in the championships. If fit, Bayliss is sure to contest the pro open and pro 450 classes.

‰ÛÏTroy is the man to beat in the Australian titles. He won 3 titles last year and he is fast around Taree. Its his local track as well so it will be a good event.‰Û
