Alex Cudlin ready to fire in the Desert

Posted:

Australia‰Ûªs defending Qatar International Road Race Champion (QIRRC) Alex Cudlin heads into the fifth round of the QIRRC looking to add to his 33 point lead over former Moto2 rider Mashel Al Naimi (Honda) when the series resumes on 10-11 May at the Losail Circuit in Qatar in the first triple header of the season.

Suzuki mounted Cudlin, who also doubles as the reserve rider for the ultra successful Suzuki Endurance Racing Team in the Endurance World Championship, missed out on the double win at round four of the QIRRC when Al Naimi stole the race two win on the line, to claw back five points on the Aussie.

A triple win in the Qatari desert would set the 26-year-old Australian up for his third straight QIRRC Championship victory in the penultimate round on 7-8 June, but for now Cudlin is focused on race wins rather than championship success.

‰ÛÏIt was a shame to miss out on the double last time but I have to keep my head on straight because Al Naimi is riding really well and his bike is fast in a straight line, which is big plus around Losail," Cudlin said.

"I‰Ûªd really like to set up a championship victory for the next round, because it would be really nice not to have to go to the final round without the pressure of having to seal the title, so I‰Ûªll be coming out with all guns blazing this weekend and trying to capture the 3 wins in the series first triple header," he concluded.
