ACT MCC’s Motocross Chairman Hangs Up His Boots

Andrew Campbell, the Chairman of the ACT Motor Cycle Club's Motocross Sub-Committee, is hanging up his boots after years of tireless work for the sport.

"It's time for me to resign my position as MX Chairman." Campbell said.

"I have really enjoyed working with the MX Committee and all those involved in helping the MX discipline achieve so much in the last few years.

"The Club should be very proud of all that it has done from new toilets, new track, new fencing and of course new sound mounds/spectator mounds and new watering system.

"We really do have one of the best set ups in the country and will only get better.

"The time has come for me to pass the batten to a new person who can carry on the work.

"I have reached a time in my business life where I just can't afford the time necessary to do the job that I have been and I must pursue new opportunities next year.

"I will not be abandoning the Club rather I will continue my work as an official and continue to work with the committee in the planning and execution of major events.

"Thank you to all those members who have been so supportive and I hope the new person enjoys the role as much as I have," Campbell concluded.

Club's President, Allan McNeice, thanked Andrew for his contribution to the Club and Motorcycle Sport.

"He said "Most of our 1006 members are unaware of the full extent of the contribution that active volunteers like Andrew Campbell have made to this Club over many years.

"When Andrew joined this Club in 2002 he rolled up his sleeves up and gave us a hand to get the job done.

"During 2005 and 2006 he was key member of the MX Track Maintenance team who achieved a major upgrade of the track and pits for the 2006 Australian Junior MX Championships.

"Andrew became the Chairperson of our MX Sub-Committee in 2007, a licensed Motorcycling Australia official (Scrutineer, Clerk and Steward) and a member of the Motorcycling NSW Motocross Sports Committee in 2008 and 2009.

"He has managed projects for the Club like the Independent Drought Proof Water Supply and Automated MX track Watering System; Australia's first FIM Standard AMA Outdoor Nationals style MX track; a new 40 gate start grid, construction of roads, spectator mounds, car parks and kilometres of fencing.

"He has also assisted with maintenance and construction at our Dirt Track, and has been an MA Official at many of our Dirt Track events.

"He did that because he is a bloke who cares about our members, our Club and our sport.

"We have enjoyed a close working relationship; from the time he took on the role as Chairman of the MX Sub-Committee he has spoken to me almost every day to discuss Club issues; ideas to improve our facilities and our sport; the progress of projects he has managed for us; and to keep me informed of the day to day operation of our Club's MX discipline.

"With Andrew Campbell, what you see is what you get.

"He is a bit "meat and 3 veg.

"He doesn't ponce around when discussing issues or getting the job done.

"He is pretty direct, gets straight to the point and uses pretty simple language to do that.

"You know exactly where you stand with Andrew Campbell and I appreciate that.

"Some people have taken offence to that, but I accept that it is his nature and personality and any positives far outweigh the negatives.

"I would rather deal with people like Andrew Campbell who give a rats, who recognise areas that need improving and offer solutions to do that, take responsibility for those solutions and get the job done, than those who whinge and whine and criticise those who do.

"In doing all of these things he has not sucked his thumb or dropped the ball once; he has finished whatever he started. He follows through!

"Like every active and hard working volunteer in this sport, his efforts have benefited every Club member and everyone who participates in the sport.

"We will miss Andrew's day to day contribution to the running and management of our Club, and the improvements to our facility, but also look forward to the contribution he can make to planning, promoting and managing major events for our Club," McNeice concluded.
