Aaron Plessinger will miss the next two rounds of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship as he continues recovering from a tailbone injury sustained at last weekend’s RedBud National.

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider crashed in the opening turn of 450 Moto 1 at RedBud and required stitches immediately following the incident. Fortunately, further medical assessment has confirmed there are no fractures, although Plessinger is dealing with significant bruising and a wound in the tailbone area.

As a result, the popular rider will sit out Round 6 at Southwick on July 11 and Round 7 at Spring Creek on July 17.

Plessinger’s condition will be reassessed ahead of Round 8 at the Washougal National on July 25, with a decision on his return to competition to be made closer to the event.

Reflecting on the incident, Plessinger said the weekend quickly unravelled after what had initially been a promising start to the opening moto.

“RedBud did not go as I expected, really disappointing to go down like that and not even a lap into the first moto,” Plessinger explained.

According to Plessinger, he got away to a solid start before being caught up in the first-turn crash.

“I got a decent jump out of the gate and went down in the first corner – as soon as I hit the ground, I got hit from behind, which tore my pants and gave me a nice cut right on my tailbone,” he said.

Plessinger also praised the medical staff who treated him at the circuit and was relieved to learn the injury was not more serious.

“The team from the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit was able to get me stitched up and on my way, so I’m thankful for that, and I’m glad it’s not worse or even broken,” he added.

With no fractures detected, the focus now shifts to recovery as Plessinger works towards a return later this month.

“I’m going to take the time to get this wound healed up and be back as soon as I can!”

Prior to the setback, Plessinger’s best result of the Pro Motocross season came at High Point, where he finished fifth overall. He has also recorded top-10 overall finishes at both Fox Raceway and Thunder Valley and currently sits 10th in the 450 Championship standings.
