Newcastle young gun Aaron Morris scored more Championship Points in the 600 Supersport Asian Roadracing Championship aboard his Australian FINSON MOTORSPORTS R6 at Sentul Indonesia 15th June.
After the opening practise session Morris found himself in 16th position and 2.4 secs off the leader with a 1 min 33.1. By the time qualifying rolled around Morris had improved his time nearly 2 seconds to a 1 min 31.4 , but still in 16th place, but just half a second off 5th place!
Morris made some suspension changes for Sunday‰Ûªs morning warmup and produced a faster 1 min 31.1 on his used qualifying tyres and was 9th fastest for the session.
Rain greeted the riders for race one and the track was drying with a dry line appearing on lap one of 16 laps. Starting from the 6th row was not going to be easy on a one line drying circuit, but Morris brought his R6 home in 15th in 1 piece and scored a championship point.
The track was wetter but still patchy and Morris had decided to attack the circuit. The plan had a hiccup on the first lap when some riders from behind outbroke themselves and pushed Morris off the circuit coming through, leaving him to come through at the end of lap 1 in 27th place.
Not one for giving up Morris set after the field trying to make up the time. With 15 laps to go he was on a mission and was carving through the field.
With 2 laps to go he caught and passed fellow Aussie Mark Atchison for 10 th position. On the last lap a challenge from behind from an Indonesian Honda rider left Morris in the dirt and the Honda rider down. Morris rejoined and finished 12th but more importantly had set the 4th fastest time of the race and also faster than Katsuaki Fugiwarra who finished 4th.
