All bike and quad hopefuls for the 2014 Tatts Finke Desert Race need to mark Tuesday 28 January in their diary, with entries for Australia's greatest and fastest desert race opening. The Finke Desert Race committee met this week to set the budget and determine the cost of entry for the 2014 event.
"I am pleased to announce entry prices will remain the same as the 2013 event, with bikes $600 and cars $820 per entry", said President,
Antony Yoffa.
The bike and quad entry field has been reduced and capped at 500 for 2014 due to an anticipated increase in the auto field and is reflective of bike entry numbers from this year.
"We are hearing a number of bike competitors may choose to sit out 2014 and concentrate on making it for the 40th anniversary in 2015. There is a significant risk that the 40th anniversary field will be substantially oversubscribed," said Mr Yoffa. "The simple message to bike riders is if you hold back, you may miss out on both."
The Finke has continued to grow its competitor base over the last few years with 180 first time bike competitors last year. Many veteran riders are planning to return for 2015.
The auto field in 2013 featured 98 car, buggy and UTV entries with more tipped to enter in 2014; particularly within the UTV class. In view of this, the Finke Committee has decided to increase the auto field to 120.
"The auto field is on the increase and we are planning for this", said Mr Yoffa.
Entries close Friday 26 April 2013, to enter, log onto www.finkedesertrace.com.au and follow the links to Bike and Quad Online Entry, once entries open on Tuesday 28 January 2014.
Car, buggy and UTV entries are expected to open in March.
The 2014 Tatts Finke Desert Race will be held from Friday 6 to Monday 9 June 2014. For more information visit
