2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals – Scott Qualifying report
The New Zealand international riders have dominated qualifying at the opening round of the 2012 Monster Energy Mx Nationals at Conondale.

Ben Townley was in his usual blistering form with the fastest lap time of the session with a lap time of 2.17.962, leading the way from fellow Kiwi riders , Josh Copping and Cody Cooper.

"I had the usual butterflies going in and it was good to get out there and get this season started, said the current New Zealand title holder. "It has been a few months in the process now and it feels good to get on with it."

"Being on a new team and bike and with new sponsors it is good to get out there and get it settled in." he added

"Today is good race prep for me, I‰Ûªll go out there and keep it on two wheels and have a day."

Coppins was not far behind , staying within 2 tenths of a second of Townley.

"There are no points for qualifying, however it is good to have a good gate pick and know I am on the pace and feeling good for the day." explained Coppins

The Track is fast, starts are still going to be very important just like any track but more so here, and It is a pretty cool track. he added

Cody Cooper just about forgot where he was racing when getting back to the team truck, looking at the results he could have sworn he was back home racing.

"It looks like a New Zealand nationals qualifying session, Ben and Josh have been good with their flying lap times back home. I seem to go better in the race, it helped me in the NZ Nationals and it is time to bring it over here" Cooper said

Bopping skied this jump out the previous lap, it was a once off massive jump.
The fastest Australian on track was CDR rider Lawson Bopping in 6th place, Lawson thrilled the crowd with a high flying jump over the large step up, being the only rider to attempt the jump.

"It was good A bit annoying with all these internationals over here (laughs) , I felt good I just made a few mistakes on my Flying lap." said Bopping

"I wanted to that jump on the media day it was a bit too wet, it was nice and tacky today so I went for it, It felt good though I don‰Ûªt think I will be doing it again today." he concluded
